Best way to clean blinds

My blinds are filthy and my heart is sinking at the thought of cleaning them all. We have them in 5 rooms of the house and until now I’ve been cleaning each slat individually with a damp cloth which is sooo time consuming. Is there a special hack or tool I can use to make the job easier?

There are tools and hacks galore but IME they are all at least as much work as cleaning the last individually. It’s an annoying job. Best solution I ever found was getting shot of the blinds. Sorry

Get yourself a swiffer duster. They are expensive but only thing that actually makes cleaning blinds straightforward

Put a sock on your hand.

ouchmyfeet · 26/06/2021 12:27

I got rid of ours because of the cleaning Smile

OwlBasket · 26/06/2021 12:28

Duster/sock/faffy 3 pronged thing only work on clean but dusty blinds. No good if they need damp cleaning, IME

coodawoodashooda · 26/06/2021 12:30

I spray mine with bleach and then start from the top by wiping down with baby wipes.

Corrag · 26/06/2021 12:33

@coodawoodashooda you bleach your blinds? Why? Genuinely interested, do they get particularly dirty?

OwlBasket · 26/06/2021 12:40

@coodawoodashoodaleach is an odd choice and likely to damage some types of materials / finishes. Obviously it’s fine on your blinds though. Great. But, mixing bleach with other cleaning products is just down right dangerous. You really mustn’t do that!

Baby wipes, although horribly wasteful, are actually a pretty good call.

*bleach is an odd choice

Thanks everyone.
@coodawoodashooda - my blinds are wooden so I don’t think bleach would work. Baby wipes might though.
@OwlBasket - you’re right. They do need a good clean first.

Not full on bleach, the spray that has bleach in them. They are in the kitchen by the back door so now and again I do clean them that way.

coodawoodashooda · 27/06/2021 10:41

I organise them so they are closed and full length. Squirt a bit of the spray on and then wipe along each slat with a baby wipe.

Blossomandbee · 27/06/2021 10:58

If it's just dust I close the blind then run a Pledge Fluffy Duster over the slats, or hoover them with the soft brush attachment.
I've got a Venetian blind in the kitchen though that needs regular de-greasing and I haven't found anything that works well. It's not ideal but I need the light control as it's a SW facing window.

DizzySquirrel90 · 27/06/2021 11:10

I close mine upwards, wipe all over (hold the bottom slat to stop it all moving around, then starting at the bottom working way up.)
Close downwards, wipe all over (still holding bottom slat, starting at top working way down.)

Done. Takes about 5 minutes per blind (although I do it regularly so they aren't filthy) could take longer if filthy.

hellogem · 28/06/2021 01:11

I Hoover mine
Once in a while I clean it with micro fibre cloth, diluted zoflora

Mine are totally disgusting. They smell and have black mars. The sock thing hasn't worked. I've also used bleach and still can't get them properly clean.

Nitgel · 12/07/2021 14:39

I take them down and shower them in the bath Grin

Losttheequipment · 12/07/2021 14:43

I close them and use the vacuum cleaner dusting attachment

Gwenhwyfar · 12/07/2021 14:44

I've thought about this, but I'm too afraid I won't be able to put them back on. Plus, mine are so bad they would need soaking and I have nowhere to soak - can't put the plug in the shower.
MrsMoastyToasty · 12/07/2021 23:25

I put mine in the bath with some bio washing powder or fairy liquid.
