Carpet Moth Help please!

I moved some furniture and found the carpet eaten away and after googling think it is carpet moth. I have put down some powder that I got from Robert Dyas. Has anyone been successful in getting rid of them and if so what did you use and how often. I don't want it to spread to my other (expensive wool) carpets!

I used a product called formula C from pest expert: the foggers are the most effective. Use in all rooms

Once they are in it’s difficult to get rid of them: light, air and lots of hoovering are what is needed, as well as chemical treatment.

I’d work under the assumption that they are already in everything: check & treat all your other carpets and all your clothes

If you can, remove this carpet, leave floor bare for a few weeks then recarpet with something moth proof

That may sound extreme, but it will probably be cheaper than dealing with an infestation that spreads to other rooms & all your clothes

I had moths before : it was v expensive and I lost a lot of clothing

Recently moved to a house that has had moths: I’ve ripped out carpets, left floors bare for a month, now having moth proofed carpets installed. Better that than lose my wool clothes again…

It may be clothes moths - we had (still have) the bastards - they've eaten patches of carpet as they hatch before checking out the wardrobe.

My understanding (from a previous infestation) is that clothes & carpet moths are the same thing. Unfortunately they can even enter your home via new clothing :(

Best way to get rid of to pull out any infested carpet - & tbh if 1 carpet is you can assume whole house is

Carpet and clothes moths are different. Thankfully carpet ones are far less invasive

I used Lakeland's lavender moth repellent squares. Plus moth traps on walls. The trick is to vacuum behind furniture weekly until the problem is solved, 6 weeks at least

Thanks everyone for you useful comments. I have got some spray from amazon and will start vacuuming a couple of times a week. Fingers crossed as I don't want to have to replace my lovely carpets.

@jonjoy: I really recommend this, especially the fogger

Lift your carpet so you can vacuum the back, the underlay and the crevice where it meets skirting - you should be able to put it back easily. Do this & vaccum under once a week until it’s all under control

Good luck - I understand, carpets v expensive
