Dishwasher Gunge - does anyone else suffer from it?

Hello all,
I have a wirlpool dishwasher (I think it is rubbish)
Anyway after the cycle has finished I often find grit like gunge stuck to plates or cups. I always use a high temp wash because I wash the pans with the cups etc...
I check for salt and top up rinse aid often and run a empty hot wash to clean out every now and again. Does anyone have any suggestions? It's got to the point where I wash the dishes by hand because the bloody thing is useless.

Have you cleaned out the filter? Do use a diswasher cleaner once every 2/3 months? Alternatively, use about 3 tablespoons of laundry borax in your powder drawer and run an empty wash..

BTW, I always wash pans with my dishes but only ever do an eco wash and everything comes out just fine. Mine's not a Whirlpool though, I think it's Rex (temparary memory loss).

Ours does this when the jets in the rotor arms need cleaning.

Take off the rotor arms (One or two depends on model) that spin under the baskets, and rinse them thru with hot water. We do it every 3/4 months.

If it needs doing more than that, it may be cracked, holding stuff in, so replace the arm.

yes, but only occasionally, and only in the mug at the back left of the top rack... so we just leave that 'position' empty.

like Brangelina we wash pans and dishes together on an eco wash (55 I think), but our dishwasher is an ancient Philips, at least 10yo, possibly 20.

Thanks.
I clean out filter often but have never checked rotor arms
Will check them today

The rotor arms are a real problem for this on our Hotpoint machine. We had got to the point a few weeks ago of thinking our dishwasher was so useless that we would replace it until dh took the arms off and found several lemon pips inside them. The pips has been forced into the holes at the end and distorted the spray angle which was leaving several parts of the machine without water during the cycle. It only took a minute or two to fix and the machine has been much better since.

Yes, ours is a hotpoint too
