Easiest way to clean white bathroom grout

Going on maternity leave soon and one of my jobs to tackle is to clean the white grout on the bathroom floor which is has gone quite sludge coloured in places Blush For obvious reasons I don't want to be on my hands and knees for too long, any magic tips for what I can use that will make the white grout come up a treat without too much scrubbing?

The Pink Stuff and a nylon bristle brush (or old toothbrushes if you keep them for cleaning).

If you haven't actually given birth yet, being on your hands and knees is insanely comfortable when you are heavily pregnant and gives the baby a nice space to get into a good position for birth. Just sayin'.

Luckyelephant1 · 09/06/2021 09:46

True, might just need some padding for my bony knees haha.

I feel like I have tried The Pink Stuff before and wasn't overly impressed but maybe I wasn't scrubbing hard enough. What about these other home made things like bicarb, vinegar, lemon juice etc? Anyone had success with that?

This is on my shopping list!

Haven't tried it yet but it gets good reviews....

Make a paste of bleach and bicarb and paint it on. Ventilate and leave the room for a couple of hours. Rinse off.

I was tempted by the Lakeland grout cleaning section which also had an electric cleaner a bit like a toothbrush. In the end I used our actual electric toothbrush with an old head and bicarbonate of soda and vinegar.
I agree it may be comfier than you think as long as you kneel on something soft! And avoid chemicals (I have used a dash of bleach in my mixture before too but no harm in avoiding this while pregnant I reckon )

@ShowOfHands
Definitely use bicarbonate of soda and bleach; fantastic results with this on our very grotty bathroom in our new house!

somebody recommended Aldi lime scale remover but i couldny find it in the shop

gutted as its suppose to be amazing so will be looking on this thread

namechangenugget2021 · 09/06/2021 20:11

@ShowOfHands has it nailed. Absolute game changer for cleaning the grout in my bathroom. I used an old toothbrush to scrub between the tiles before rinsing and it literally came up looking brand new.

dementedpixie · 09/06/2021 20:13

I use a denture brush as its bigger than a toothbrush. It's got a narrow end too that's good for corners

whatsthestory123 · 09/06/2021 20:14

will it be ok bleach and bicarb on a biscuit colour grout

Luckyelephant1 · 09/06/2021 23:34

Great, bleach and bicarb it is (with plenty of ventilation)!

Ah thanks for this OP. Our wall tile grout near the bath has gone a gross yellowy colour and desperately needs sorting.

Luckyelephant1 · 17/06/2021 21:10

Just reporting back to say the bleach and bicarb worked amazingly! Lots of scrubbing with a toothbrush and I'm now very achey but it's worth it, the grout looks new! Didn't anticipate how messy the residue bicarb would be afterwards though so cleaning everything up took ages but still Grin

@Luckyelephant1 it's fantastic isn't it! You shouldn't have to scrub just make a thick paste and paint it on with a paintbrush and leave overnight.

GuyFawkesDay · 17/06/2021 22:08

Kilrock mould gel.
Once it's gone, stop using shower gel. That weird orangey mould will stop appearing

mrssmith45 · 17/06/2021 22:26

I decided to tackle mine in lockdown! It wouldn't budge so I got a grout pen from Amazon and it worked wonders! Looked like I had re-tiled the bathroom! Good luck with the grout and baby!

Oh oops, I think I was just really impatient and I'm definitely in the nesting stage right now so I wanted results immediately 😂 was pretty satisfying though and good to keep active I suppose!

@Luckyelephant1 I'm well past nesting as my youngest is 25! Plus I'm lazy; just paint it on and leave. It's part of my monthly routine!
