Cleaning kids toys

Hi, I just wanted to find out what others do, like with soft toys that can't be machine washed? And also books/things that aren't so easy to clean. And with cars and plastic items, I have used Dettol wipes but so many of these wipes are very foamy I find, and are not meant to be used on certain things, so just wanted some tips on keeping things clean. Thanks!

With the pfb i binned/donated anything that couldn’t go through a dishwasher or washing machine.

But over time I came to appreciate the wonderful immune building opportunities. Smile

I mainly don’t wash/clean stuff. If soft toy particularly bad it goes in the machine even if not machine washable. I’ve used a wipe on a book if it’s been weetabixed but otherwise never cleaned books and very very occasionally I go over dusty toys with baby wipes (dc ‘help’).

Milton tablet in water and I wipe over stuff.

What is this 'cleaning of toys'?

The soft toy people lie when they say you can't machine wash, just do it on a sunny day and dry outside for a long time. The rest - I never really manage to get my kids clean, let alone their toys!

I didn’t - unless they got vomited on or similar. There’s very little point.

Plastic toys in the bath / shower with dettol / anti bacterial laundry solution

Wash soft toys

Don't have my own kids but done this with my charges items in an earlier role

You can wash most soft toys but, for those that absolutely can't be washed, you can put them in the freezer overnight to kill off germs. You can also get toy cleaner sprays and rub them over with a cloth to remove grubbiness.
Bodily soiling, and it goes in the washing machine regardless: if it doesn't survive, it's got no business being manufactured for children imo!

Cold wash the teddies.
Lego I wash in laundry bags and fill the bag and let it steep (not very often I need to do this)
Books -never really did clean them maybe when they were younger but not now.

BigusBumus · 05/06/2021 12:18

Plastic cups and stuff I used to put in the top of the dishwasher.

But really very rarely cleaned toys.

Kids need to build immunity to stuff. That's what I always said anyway. 😁

We don’t clean toys.

Sorry lol, maybe it sounded a bit too clinical lol. I don't clean my DC's toys etc that often, but I was just interested in what other people did/do. I know and totally get it, why there is no point in trying to do it regularly as like I find, my DC goes running off with mucky hands as he tries to escape from me washing them 😆 and then job is all undone again!
