Home insurance claim - help!

We recently sustained some storm damage to our conservatory roof which now requires replacing.

The insurance company have confirmed that we are covered for this type of damage. We have now obtained two quotes which have both come in at £840, inclusive of VAT.

The insurance company have agreed to pay this amount, net of VAT and obviously minus our excess. This still leaves us having to foot £520 of the bill.

Does anyone know if it is correct that the insurance company do not have to pay the VAT?

Thanks in advance.

Bumping for you, as that sounds odd to me.

Surely the claim is for 'what is costs' (minus the excess) ?

Usually unless you are vat registered for some reason the insurers cover the vat costs. I would double check with them as it could be that your vat status has been incorrectly input in to their system.

We recently had to get a carpet replaced on insurance, on the initial quote for the New carpet the company hadn't included their VAT number and the insurance company said they would only agree to pay the vat if they were a VAT registered company and gave an invoice with the VAT number on it. We got a New invoice and all was fine, they should definitely be paying the VAT! All you should be out of pocket is your excess.

Yes they should pay the VAT

If you are Vat registered then yes they deduct the vat as you will b able to claim it back. If u not vat registered no they should pay the vat.
