Bees!!

I've just got back from town and went into my front room and was convinced I was about to get attacked by a swarm of bees- eventually tracked the noise down to a ventilation brick on the wall. It seems I have some new house guests! What do I do? Who do I call?!

Google local bee keepers. They often come and try and relocate a swarm or will be able to advise you.
If they are wasps you have to contact pest control.

Get them removed, don't block the brick or they find another way to get in and then they are v b cross with you.

Had this a couple of years ago and it was like a horror film. You could hear them buzzing from out in the street and people came to knock on my door to advise me that my sitting room window was blacked out by a swarm of bees. Because obviously I was unaware of the fact that the Swarm 2 was being re-enacted in my house!

Bee keepers are volunteers. The can't remove brick work if they can't get to the bees they won't be able to move them. Are they honey bees or bumble bees? A lot of the time swarms move in their own sometimes they don't. This is the beginning of swarming season so they might move you might be lucky

Bee keepers can use pheromones though to entice the queen out so the rest will follow, they won’t need to remove any bricks.

We called the council to remove a nest in our house. It was about £40. It was a quick and easy process and if they are unsuccessful they will try again for free.

We had a wasp nest up the chimney a few years ago, and t hey we’re coming in through an upstairs bedroom fireplace. DH unwisely unloaded a whole can of wasp killer up the chimney and it was mayhem. We had to shut the door and plug the gap with a towel, to the sound of angry buzzing. The next day there were dozens and dozens of dead wasps on the floor, but not all of them were gone.

In the end we had to get a specialist round to remove the nest - cost about £200.

It doesn't work unfortunately. You might entice a few bees out but you wouldn't attract the queen so it would be pointless. You also have to consider that bee keepers are volunteers who don't get paid. I had a woman once get really angry with me because I wouldn't get onto her roof to get a swarm of bees that were originally in her guttering but had moved up near the chimney. I had to explain to her that I was a volunteer, don't get paid & bee keeping is my hobby and wasn't willing to risk breaking my neck.
