Hi All.

Could anyone recommend a vacuum cleaner (cylinder) that is bagless, has lifetime filters, has variable power (if the power is high) and has a hose long enough to leave the vacuum at the bottom of the stairs and be able to vacuum right to the top of the stairs?

I have found an older Morphy Richards model that looks to fit the bill and have also come across a Vax Performance Zero that fit the bill but I wanted to know if there were any others I could consider as well.

I am also considering the following for shampooing and was wondering if shampoo vacuums just 'shampoo' the carpet to condition it or does it actually 'clean' it and remove dirty marks, etc? Would a steam cleaner be better for this purpose?

T hanks.

I have been pleased with my Dyson and it's still going strong five years after I bought it.

Thanks SmileSam.

Any particular model?

I'd second the dyson, I've a DC04 model and it does us perfectly, doesn't lose suction at all, and easy does stairs - leaving the actual vacuum at the bottom and not lugging it up!
As for carpet cleaning, I have cream carpet up the stairs and on the landing upstairs. I bought this and it does an excellent job, it really does clean it. and only takes a short time to dry because it suctions up the excess really well. BUT that one is a three in one and is also supposed to be a straightforward vacuum, its absolutely crap as a vacuum - hence buying the dyson! So I'd say buy a vax to clean and a dyson to hoover lol

Don't buy a Morphy Richards. Ours was awful and the drive belt snapped regularly.

Now have a Miele and it's wonderful - it's not bagless but is superb.

My Dyson's a DCO4 too. I didn't realise you were supposed to take the filter out and clean it under the tap. Did that about 6 months ago (after four years!) and it works even better now!! Also ordered a new hose online as the old one ripped (had been used loads, so not a fault) and was easy and cheap to get hold of.
