How much do you pay for your cleaner?

To all those who have cleaners, how much do you pay? Where are you based? And do you use a self employed cleaner, a cleaning company or an agency? How many hours a week do you have a cleaner in your home? I am double checking my prices are fair an in keeping with the current market.

I pay cash and ask no questions.

Hmm
HotSteppa · 07/05/2021 17:56

I live in Manchester, 3 bed house, 3 hours once a fortnight, £45 by bank transfer to the woman who runs the company.

I just asked her to focus on cleaning bathroom and kitchen, hoover everywhere, but not expecting much in the bedrooms or living room. She will do windows if I ask but wouldn't expect her to climb on cabinets to get the kitchen ones. I stripped the beds and left clean covers out once, previously cleaners have done this without issue, but she asked me if I wanted her to change the covers and didn't look impressed so I said just leave it 😳 she gets it clean but not deep clean if you know what I mean,

Can't afford a cleaner at the moment (childcare takes all my money!) but I was paying £25 cash for two hours every other weekend. It was a one bed flat.

My friend used her services and paid less. She had quoted me my friend's rate (£10/hr) and I informed her we were to pay her more. It's hard to find a decent cleaner in London.

I also eventually suggested she change her schedule so that she did my friend's place and mine the same day, as we lived close, and I'd be flexible. I had so many no shows before her that I was keen to keep her happy and make things easy!

When I moved out, I was pregnant and I booked her and her daughter for 4 hours for a move out clean. She came out of recent retirement to help. What a lifesaver.

With London cleaners, you should expect to provide your own supplies as most travel by public transport.

Looking at other replies feels like I'm paying over the odds, I thought this was a bargain having got a few quotes a couple of years ago that were way more than £15 pph

I have seen on other forums that a lot of people are paying £15 p/h so it might be the going rate for your particular area. I know what you mean about not doing a deep clean though, so many people hire cleaners and still spend their spare time doing housework anyway!

@ILoveMondayMornings

£14 an hour in N. London.

I love people who use their initiative. I really hate pointing out the obvious.

Yes! Like please dust the skirt in board rather than cleaning an already clean kitchen cupboard!

I paid £10 an hour in Yorkshire but she just quit which I'm gutted about. What I really really want from a cleaner is a way to talk through everything I want done without being seen as a monster or patronising. My friends cleaner had a tick list on a spreadsheet. One the first visit they went room by room agreeing everything that she wanted cleaned. The cleaner then helped guide on what was a realistic expectation for the time and suggested what things could be every three weeks for example. This conversation was all led by the cleaner and my friend said it was shut such a massive relief that she created a way to be really clear. I would love if it I found a cleaner who would do that.

Somuddled · 07/05/2021 18:31

OP where are you based and what are your ideas for providing a good service?

RedRec · 07/05/2021 18:34

£12 an hour, West Yorkshire.

DownRightAmazing · 07/05/2021 18:41

£13 p/h (she does 1.5hrs /week and I actually pay £20). South East.

The thing I like most (compared to previous cleaners) is that she has been cleaning for me for over a year and her standards haven't dropped. She is also really reliable. She doesn't waste time making the bed (which I don't value) and she empties the household bins but not the kitchen which works for me.

Extras I would like (which actually I am sure she would do if I asked/paid her for it) include tidying up, changing the beds, moving furniture a bit more.

£15/hour, three hours twice a week. We pay for bank holidays, so double rates if she makes up the hours. We also pay as usual when we are on holiday

Just outside M25.

Same s/e cleaner for over 17years. I keep an eye on local adverts and make sure we pay above the current advertised going rate.

Originally I asked for the house to be ready for my mother to visit anytime. We keep it tidy, no DC no pets. Now used to thinks being polished and shiny. We agreed how long it make take each week and do a review occasionally incase there is anything that would make her time be used more effectively.

We are flexible about when she comes and make sure she had anything she needs, including DH making a cup of coffee when he is home.

When I loose my keys (or anything else ) she always knows what I have done with them. Helped me sort out the garage over Christmas holidays. Takes stuff to charity shops etc when I have a clear out. Knows everyone in the village so can magic up handymen. Used to take deliveries etc when I was in the office and DH travelling.

If there had to be a choice between 'Treasure' and DH, we all know who I would choose.

£56 for 4 hours (2 people for 2 hours). It went up by £1/hr after the first lockdown. I think it's £1/hr extra if they use their own stuff (although they do bring their own vacuum cleaner). I pay by direct transfer to the owner of the (small) company.

Cookerhood · 07/05/2021 20:05

Home counties

WellTidy · 07/05/2021 20:07

£12/hour direct to the cleaner and £2.80/hour to the agency. We pay more than the agency specify to the cleaner as she does such a good job. We provide all materials.

SE (within the m25) here.

Confusedandshaken · 07/05/2021 20:12

South London. She works for us privately. She was recommended by a friend and quoted £12 an hour. She also does agency work and only gets £11 and hour for that.

Lochnessgiraffe · 07/05/2021 20:21

We pay £45 for 3 hours to a small agency. We've a 3bed 3 bathroom house in the sw. The agency are brilliant.
