help me organise my house!

Recently, I shouted at my messy/loud kids that I 'just want to go home!' and I realised that my house didn't feel like a 'home' should. It is stressful, messy, strewn with disorganised things... And we're always rushing around looking for lost things, late and interrupted.

Could anyone recommend books, podcasts or anything to inspire me to convert my house into a comforting, organised home? Something thoughtful, mindful and calming, but informative?

I am so organised at work and I have a decent salary - but my home is a complete mess. Help!

Hire a professional declutterer. It'll save you so much money and time in the long run as they'll set up systems that you and your family can follow.

Sorry don't have any recommendations but following because you're not alone!

I'm a PA and the most organised person at work you could meet. Yet my home is an unorganised disaster 😬🙈 it's like I've got two personalities!

Check out This Girl Can Organise. She has lots and lots of tips.

I’ve started watching the Minimal Mom videos on YouTube, we couldn’t live as minimalist as her family but she’s got good tips!

Oh wow, this Girl can Organise has lots of great tips! Am scared (embarassed) of getting a professional declutterer, so need to get myself organised.

Subscribed to Minimal Mum! Thank you for recommending! I find Marie Kondo too ethereal for me - MM seems more realistic. Her concept of the "invisible to do list" is so true!!! Explains why am so stressed by my home. Very interesting

My suggestion is not to procrastinate further by faffing with vidies and podcasts, but take assertive action and get it done. You will feel a million times better if home isn't stressful and chaotic

If you can afford it, hire a professional. If you look on their websites I bet they'll have examples of houses much worse than yours!

Listen to a slob comes clean podcast. Lots of different titles that you can dip into. I found the first 4 or 5 episodes an interesting intro to her and then scrolled down to pick out titles I was keen to hear her discuss.
Then I just started a job that needed doing.
She talks about building good habits and starting with the obvious, visual jobs

the best thing for me was moving house!!!!!
I spent weeks and months working out what needed to go where in the new house, what storage was needed to utilise the space and needs best.
Then when we moved we ruthlessly decluttered and now its so much neater and calmer as everything has a place and a purpose!! much easier to keep clean too.

drawer dividers and storavge boxes in cupboards is my top tip -
eg utensil drawer - instead of having to rummage through the whole drawer i now have several boxes so eg potatoe peelers and tin openers together, whisks and spatulas in another etc.
The study has a tall set of thin shallow drawers, so one has sewing stuff in another stationery, another batteries etc. because shallow and then with drawer dividers/organizers its easy to open drawer and immediately see what you need,

There's really no need to be embarrassed, as I can guarantee you that they'll have seen much worse than yours - it's literally their job.

How about virtual sessions - that way you can maintain a bit of distance. You still get the expert guidance but actually do the work yourself. Would be more affordable too.
