Lily Pollen On CREAM carpet !-Help!!!!

Whooosh · 14/11/2007 13:43

Courtesy of dumb cat who managed to knock a fair fair amount of it onto the floor.
Yes I know I should have cut the stamens off but I didn't and now don't know how to get the damn stuff off.(before DP gets home and blames me or skins cat)

Any pearls of wisdom? [pleading emoticon]

One of those sticky lint rollers wks a treat. Failing that, I would imagine that sellotape has the same effect.

Do not rub!

And lillies are poisonous to cats.

HeadHeartorHormones · 14/11/2007 13:44

I've heard rumours that cellotape works. Can't do any harm to try. Don't get it wet!

mumbear · 14/11/2007 13:45

Wrap sellotape around your hand and just pat it on the stamens dont try to rub or anything. I cut the stamens off once and they just died! Also get it off the dumb cat some lily pollen can be poisonous to them.

Whooosh · 14/11/2007 13:49

OK-so sellotape has helped-on the bits that were sitting on the surface.
Now need a solution for the remaining stains kindly rubbed into the carpet by my very helpful and houseproud 2yr old....pleeeeeease.

Do NOT rub!!! Do NOT get wet!!!!

Cellotape should work if you are persistent and keep using a new clean bit when it gets full. Worked on a white hired dinner jacket!

You can get a bit of kitchen towel and pull off the pollen bits. Dispose of away from the cat. Shouldn't affect the flowers.

LadyK · 14/11/2007 13:52

Ah-ha. Helpful 2 yr old didn't read above message then.

Only other thing I can think of is a Scotchguard carpet foam that you spray on and hoover away once dry.

no sprays foams water etc - you will just end up with a bit yellow patch.

My sister replaced her carpet in the same situation - is that helpful ?

chocolateteapot · 14/11/2007 14:01

I don't want to be the voice of doom but I had to claim on the insurance after my cats did the same thing.....

Whooosh · 14/11/2007 14:07

Thanks Kew-most helpful-how's the washing machine?

Really don't want to poison poor Colin but DP might.....

OK-off to get another roll of sellotape.......

Kewcumber · 14/11/2007 15:55

OK-have sellotaped carpet within an inch of it's thread-still have yellow satin.

Colin's life is at stake here if I can't get the stain out before DP gets back-any other magic remedies?????

OP posts:
Whooosh · 14/11/2007 21:10

stain-not satin-that really would be bleurgh....

tissy · 14/11/2007 21:18

Strategically placed toy on the floor?

Move the furniture round?

Kewcumber · 14/11/2007 21:23

Rug is an excellent idea

or dye carpet yellow?

Whooosh · 14/11/2007 21:26

Rug>>>>>>>>>nah-too obvious.

Dyeing carpet yellow-what a great idea Kew...................not.

Hlep me or Colin is gonna get it!!!!!!!

could a child have an "accident" with a pot of yellow paint / felt tip pen?

Presumably dh wouldn't skin a child?

Whooosh · 14/11/2007 21:32

Mmmm-now there's an idea-unfortunately-Dp is a bit toosmart onthe housekeeping front and would suss me immediately.

poor old Colin could get a reprieve I gues f I just blamed dd for knocking the lillies-but then I would get it for not cutting our the stamens....oh bum!-there is no answer is there?????

I did this and then rubbed the stain in with a wipe in one of my most absent minded moments.

Tried all the stuff under the sink and finally got rid of it with 50% bleach - water solution.
However as a disclaimer I had already decided the carpet was f*ed and was going to claim on insurance. So really be sure there are no other option. Did work like a treat though and it disappeared completely. (100% nylon carpet by the way - we are waiting for the LO's to grow up before investing in real flooring)

could you snip out the offending bits of the carpet with nail scissors? Just give it a bit of a haircut.

Oh man Whooosh I'm on fire this evening...

StealthPolarBear · 14/11/2007 21:52

i thought you had lily allan on your cream carpet
Hope you get it out

Whooosh · 14/11/2007 22:06

MAybe I could claim a lily alien on the carpet and deny all knowledge?.....[hopeful emoticon]

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 15/11/2007 08:53

That would be an interesting insurance claim
