So I went to my my friends garden yesterday for a cuppa after school and the kids played in the garden.
Her kitchen backs onto the garden- one of her boys went to dry his hands in a tea towel and my friend yelled at him ‘not the tea towel- that’s for the dishes!’ ‘Use the designated hand towel’

Random post! But do use all have a separate hand towel in the kitchen?
I just use a tea towel. I get through about 5 tea towels a day however I’m. Interesting if this is the done thing?

@Whatalottachocca

We use the tea towel, no separate hand towel. We’re obviously a very scummy family 🤣
Us too.

Hygiene is good, but more is not necessarily better. You can overdo it.

I have separate hand towels and tea towels in the kitchen. I wash my hands a lot in the kitchen, after using raw meat, cutting up garlic/onions or chillies, playing with or feeding the dog etc all mean frequent washing to me. Also get pissed at OH who never puts the hand towel back in its home, but does manage to put the tea towels back in their home. What's that about?

Yes for hand towel in the kitchen and it's a bit thinner than what you'd have in yeh the bathroom......but where can I get some. I need replacements for my very old kitchen hand towels and can't find them anywhere!!

Haven't RTFT but just thought I'd share one of my most horrific discoveries... after about a week of non-stop rain, I happened to be in the kitchen at the same time as the children when the cat miaowed at the door to get in.
"Don't let her in" I shouted, "I'll just get an old towel to dry her off"
"Don't worry mum", the DS's replied "Just use this tea towel like we've been doing" ShockShockShock

We do have a hand towel, because I find proper towels better at drying hands. But I can't imagine why people think it's unhygienic not to. I mean - your hands touch the hand towel and your hands touch the dishes and the dishes touch the tea towel fgs!

Tea towels are linen or cotton so they don't leave fluff on the dishes.

Towels are towelling which can be fairly fluffy - and more absorbent for wet hands. It's got nothing to do with cleanliness.

I don't get the angst about washing hands in the kitchen though? I wash my hands in the kitchen after eg emptying the bin, or handling raw meat. Surely others don't trek upstairs to the bathroom dripping meat juices to do that? Also use a kitchen towel to dry my hands after eg peeling potatoes or prepping other veg.

For those who can't find kitchen towels, I got some guest towels with bright patterns in M&S.
