Keeping newly tidied house clean

I’ve worked hard for the last 2 weeks to declutter, tidy and clean the house.

I’m going back to work on Monday, and I’m desperate to keep the house nice as it’s been lovely to live in the last fortnight. I work 10-12 hour days out of the house, Monday-Friday. My husband works from home and we have two primary ages children. The whole family are very able and willing to help, but we lack structure and routine I think.

Any tips or advice?

Google TOMM. The organised mum method. It's fab

Perhaps try a rota on the fridge with name, day and task on

I think the TOMM regime starts again this Monday so a good time to join.

I need to do the same. We have just moved house. Because we had the unpacking and a few little DIY jobs to do (plus the house was grubby when we moved in - how do people leave it like that?!? I would be too embarrassed) I have not been able to get on top of things.

We decluttered before we moved, we decluttered as we moved, I am still throwing things away (so.much.stuff).

I have booked cleaners to come in next week to do a deep clean (£200 for 2 cleaners for 8 hours) - apparently they will clean every crevice Grin which I would hope so with 16hrs of cleaning between them!

I then want to make sure I keep it that way. We can't really justify paying for weekly cleaners at the moment so it will be me dealing with it. I am going to follow TOMM loosely but probably only do the half hours on my days off and just do the 15 mins each day. I think, for me, the main thing is to tidy and wipe over the kitchen each day, wipe the downstairs loo over each day, hoover the main areas (with the handheld hoover) each day and keep the sink and loo in the bathroom clean. If those areas are ok then I feel better about life.

This house is almost twice the size of my old one and I barely managed to keep that in a fit state and so I definitely need a plan for this one.

Keeping the place tidy is the hard part for me, but it does make cleaning that much quicker.

I work 4 days a week and have divided my home into 4 sections. As it's tidy, it's easy to whizz round for a dust and clean. I do it as soon as I get in while dinners in the oven, then when I sit down for dinner, I'm done for the day.

Loading the dishwasher and hanging the washing on the airer happens every night, but I don't do housework the 3 days I'm off work.

But keeping the house tidy is the key to an easy life😁

Sounds like you could do with a simplified version of TOMM- we have a list of everything that needs doing on each day sellotaped inside a kitchen cabinet. There are things that need doing every day like washing up and a ten minute tidy round, then a room to tackle that day too which should take 20-30 mins max (the first week is harder- if you're starting from a tidy house you'll be fine). Over the week you clean and tidy the whole house.
We have split the areas into; Kitchen and utility/ Bathrooms/ Living room/ Hall stairs and landing/ and Bedrooms and tackle one each day (we have busy Monday and Friday so only do the basics on those days.I can post a picture if it would help!

Thanks all. I’ve downloaded the TOMM app - looks good!
