I need a Hoover, not a hero!

I've just moved into a 5 bed house, over 3 floors and need a Hoover that will cope with the size of house, plus stairs and 2 girls with hair that sheds an insane amount. Plus a future dog to contend with! Our cordless Shark is most definitely not up to the challenge!

Is the Harry Hoover any good? Any recommendations are deeply welcome! My crawling baby keeps ending up with fistfuls of hair and the black sock fluff everywhere is driving me mad!

Ours is quite powerful but bloody heavy. We have a house with many many stairs and I hate lugging the sodding thing up and down. DH refused to get a lighter one, so he's doing all the hoovering. You'd get a good workout if you decide to get one.

Bloodyfuckit · 15/04/2021 11:21

Corded is vital. Cordless just can't cope with a heavy workload. Miele is phenomenal. Sucks the carpets off the floor!

Kottbullar · 15/04/2021 11:24

Miele, definitely. The cords are really long.

UCOinanOCG · 15/04/2021 11:32

Is this a Meile upright or pull along (don't know the technical term!)?

ginandvomit · 15/04/2021 11:36

I have a robot vacuum that goes on daily downstairs and a cordless Dyson upstairs. Manages the pets and mucky children.

UhtredRagnarson · 15/04/2021 11:37

No idea about Harry but I have Henry cordless and he’s brilliant. I also have shark lift away and Miele powerline cat and dog. Hate the Miele, tolerate the shark. I reach for Henry every time. Even if it means I have to put on shoes and go out to the car and get him. (I take him to work)

UhtredRagnarson · 15/04/2021 11:37

Btw Henry cordless is much lighter than corded Henry.

muddledmidget · 15/04/2021 11:40

I think you need 3 hoovers, not 1. There's no way you're regularly going to lug one from the top to the bottom or vice versa, whereas a cordless on each floor will just be grabbed regularly and the charge will easily do a floor and possibly a set of stairs.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 15/04/2021 12:07

I've just bought a Harry after threatening to throw my cordless shark out the window one too many times. So far, I love it. Yes it's unwieldy compared to a cordless one, but the power is incomparable. It's so much better than my shark.

THisbackwithavengeance · 15/04/2021 12:12

I use my Henry for a once a week good going over (4 bedrooms, 3 floors).

And my cordless shark for top ups/crumbs in between.

GoodCow · 15/04/2021 16:24

Thanks, I'll take a look at the Milliieweeeooo ones!

Shark Lift Away is amazing. Had a Henry before and it just got annoying. Agree with other posters, ideally you should have a heavy duty corded one and then a lightweight cordless for in between.

OolieMacdoolie · 15/04/2021 16:32

I would never have anything other than a Miele again. They are incredible.

I’d never have another Henry. The bastard thing is always getting jammed, then you turn around and his wee cunt face is peering at you from round the edge of a door 😡

cheeseychovolate · 15/04/2021 18:20

Miele or sebo

ceilingsand · 19/04/2021 09:40

I have a Henry and a Dyson cordless. The Henry has only jammed once in a decade, because of a sock in it. I think the Henry fir deep cleaning and the Dyson for light day to day.

TheVanguardSix · 19/04/2021 09:43

Miele. I've done Shark in-between Mieles. I will never stray from Miele again. Loyalty for life. Grin

We currently have a Tineco and I wouldn't recommend it! It's higher maintenance than all of us combined.

Why do you hate the Miele, is it the weight or something else?

BeastOfBODMAS · 19/04/2021 09:53

I have the commercial Henry, it’s grey without the cord winder on top so is a bit lighter and it’s an absolute beast. I think the motor is a more powerful than the normal red Henry. Came from eBay.

UhtredRagnarson · 19/04/2021 10:02

I think I’ve been very unlucky with the one I got as I’ve never heard anyone else have the issues I’ve had.

The weight, yes, it’s bulky and not good for doing the stairs. It won’t sit steady on the steps so it’s quite dangerous due to how heavy it is IMO.

The cord jams on it when pulling it. I have to unravel the whole thing at the start as it doesn’t pull out as you go.

It’s gets stuck on the cord instead of rolling over the top of it and I keep having to go back and release it.

It gets stuck on corners.

The little plastic bits on the head that are supposed to sit into the slot when storing it snapped on both heads. For a £300+ machine I was really disappointed with that.

The dust collecting chamber feels very delicate when snapping it in and out of place. I always feel like it’s going to break.

The turbo brush was constantly needing cleaned as it would jam and stop working. which is a real hassle to do as you have to take the head apart to do it.

There’s also a lot of parts to worry about when taking it apart to clean, which I find needs to happen quite regularly.

Overall I found I was avoiding hoovering because the thing was such a nuisance when I did it and I’m a weirdo who loves cleaning! Grin

KirstenBlest · 20/04/2021 14:43

Get a rubber broom and a dustpan. It will pick up the long hair so you'll not be having to empty the hoover so often.

Pick a not too hairy dog. It doesn't need to be non-shedding but a smooth coat is better than a shaggy one.

Don't get a cat.
