I'm panicking - I think i have to do it immediately. If I get some stuff from the shops tomorrow, will it still come out?

OK my book says to blot then use paper towels dampened with acetone based nail polish remover...(but not on acetate as it will disolve) if it is dry clean only OR
Use liquid laundry detergent and work it into the stain and immediately wash in HOT water... HTH.

Sidge · 11/11/2007 21:17

Use washing up liquid neat, rub it in then wash as usual.

Or make a paste with biological washing powder, rub it in, then wash.

bunnyhunny · 11/11/2007 21:24

right, I found some vanish stuff in the cupboard, amongst all the ecover products!
so I blotted it, then put ecover on it, rinsed then put vanish on it, now it's in the wash.
please work!!!

Hi Bunnyhunny,

Did it work?

My friend managed to get an old grease stain out with Simply Active - the new eco washing powder stuff in Sainsburys and Morrisons.

We're both converts - it's got eco accreditation and is totally animal friendly unlike ecover...

Anyway, she had an old grease stain on some bedding(!) long story. She'd tried everything, and put the washing in with some Simply Active - the stain came out!!!

Brilliant! xx

bunnyhunny · 12/11/2007 17:36

well, it's on the line drying right now..

it's not dry, but I can't see the stains anymore!!

so what's wrong with ecover?

Well, they claim to be ecologicaly friendly but who actually tests their prducts... erm - they do!

They were claiming to not be tested on animals until the Vegan Society found out that they did actually test on water fleas (tiny, granted, but still living creatures) and withdrew its backing.

I've been using this Simply stuff and reading about it and its actually undergone testing to be awarded an eco label. You've (not you personally, but everyone) got to ask yourself why Ecover hasn't got this label?

And - finally, it's soo much cheaper!! A 'green' product that doesn't cost a fortune! I guess its made me question Ecover a lot and for me, the answers don't stack up.

Glad the top has been salvaged! x

bunnyhunny · 13/11/2007 16:51

I will look that Simply stuff up then! The whole eco thing is so dodgy, I'm sure a lot of people say they are eco-friendly just because they contain less harmful products, but are still evil to the environment (iyswim).

I know... thats exactly what I think. That's why the government should be pushing this labelling scheme more heavily.

I've looked into it and apparently its quite tough - the products have to prove that they can perform as well as the main brands but also have to pass ecological tests too.

I guess nothing is ever going to be 100% but at least this product has passed INDEPENDENT testing!

Just a shame they don't have a bigger range... still, give it time i suppose!

Have a nice evening x
