Greasy marks left by blu tack removal?

poppym12 · 11/04/2021 15:26

Any ideas how to remove the marks left by blu tack on a bright white wall?

I've tried isopropyl alcohol. Didn't work. The marks look a bit oily/greasy so I hope someone might have found a solution to this problem in the past.

Watching with interest as I have the same problem.

I really hope someone has come up with something that works too.

Magic eraser?

poppym12 · 11/04/2021 20:39

I'll give it a go @neversleeps, thank you. Hopefully it won't take the paint with it.

Kitchen roll and hairdryer

Lighter fluid?

QueenOfTheDoubleWide · 11/04/2021 22:15

I had this recently but found it when the room was about to be redecorated
Decorator was not happy and said he had to put a coat of some blocking stuff over the greasy mark to stop it bleeding through the new paint so I'm not sure it can be removed or even painted over

Kneehighinshit · 11/04/2021 22:20

You can buy stuff called stain block - it comes in a paint tin. Goes on really thick and takes a couple of hours to dry then you paint over it.

I’ve used lighter fluid. It gets rid of sellotape glue too.

ElGuardiandenoche · 12/04/2021 23:09

Cheers, will give the lighter fluid a try.

Haven’t tried this, but if you have any white bread, I read somewhere that you can try rubbing some on it.
if it doesn’t work, then stain blocker is probably best for covering.

It's good stuff, however that's not a solution for the OP though as the marks are on patterned wallpaper and she's trying to remove them.

Just had this issue in DDs room
Sugar soap, lots of it.
If not then white vinegar, fairy liquid, lemon juice and hot water works.

poppym12 · 13/04/2021 22:35

Thank you for all the ideas. Hopefully one of them will work.
