Humour me? Kitchen utensil set

I know, how exciting can life get? However,

I've been using mismatched kitchen utensils forever, mostly bought from the Kitchen Reject Shop (remember them?) c. 30 years ago. I have them crammed into a drawer that's not really big enough so keeps getting stuck.

I usually avoid clutter on worktops, but if I was to weaken and have a set out on display, are there any that are things of beauty? Grin

Mary Berry and Nigella have nice ones. Even Sainsbury's does! I have mine in a ceramic jar on the counter - you won't get everything to match as I haven't found a range that includes all I want though. Most supermarkets have a black range, nigellas is pale blue (and I think Berry's is too). Have you looked on amazon?

I have a stainless steel shelf with a rod running under it where we hook all the utensils. It's above the sink and is handy for drying sieves so the don't end up rusty.

I'm not keen on sets. They will always have something I don't want (flimsy plastic potato masher) and not enough of the things I would actually need (tongs, fish slice, slotted spoons).

Over the years I've got rid of the red and black plastic items I bought as a set when I first set up home (in 1984!!!) and have gradually rebuilt my kit with good quality stainless steel and silicon items. TK Max is very good for these as are Tesco, Lakeland if you are feeling flush and Lidl/Aldi and Poundland when money is tight.

Yes, having looked at sets that are £££, I've concluded that what I really need is a beautiful ceramic jar to keep the best of what I have in and replace a few bits with better quality. Thank you

I agree with Confusedandshaken andSoothes. I have my wooden spoons, spatulas, potato masher, soup ladle etc in a wide neck jar.

All individual items chosen with care. My ladle was ££ but it’ll last a lifetime so a one-off purchase.

Lol. I had a beautiful stainless steel ladle. Lovely shape and size and the steel was really polished and shiny. I used it to bang on a cast iron saucepan during Clap for Carers in the first lockdown and it's never been the same since.
