Cleaning schedules please

We used to have a cleaner, but she's now stopped work. Hoping to find a new one, but in the meantime we need to keep on top of the cleaning as lockdown turned it into a hovel

My family don't see mess/dirt, so I'm trying to find a realistic cleaning schedule that we can stick to. We both work full time, although I work compressed hours/from home, so could do a few more jobs during the week.

Does anyone have a cleaning schedule, eg:
Monday - change & wash towels, clean bathroom
Tuesday - vacuum downstairs & dust
Wednesday - change bedsheets & clean kitchen

  • that works for them, that I could copy/adapt? I'm far from house proud, so it just needs to be enough to keep things ticking over and so I'm not ashamed to show any prospective new cleaners

Thanks!

Mon upstairs dust
Tues upstairs hoover
Weds bathrooms
Thurs downstairs dust
Fri downstairs hoover
Daily: load of washing, inc beds.
It’s supposed to take < half an hour a day and I firmly believe it should work (but that would involve dp signing up to the programme on my work days...)

I use the organised mum method which is generally quite effective. I've got the book but she has stuff online which is basically the same or an app ( you have to pay but probably worth it) which is good. It's all about routine and doing certain things on certain days. I like it because I remember that Monday is living room day etc instead of just feeling totally overwhelmed by it all.

Morning all, good to see your posts, just joined.

greyinganddecaying · 10/04/2021 10:48

Thanks!

I think that's the thing, it can be completely overwhelming.

How often do you all do jobs such as cleaning inside of windows/glass doors etc? I don't tend to until I can see how dirty they are Blush

The organised mum method (TOMM) is brilliant.
I even paid for the app.

I wfh and DP doesn't, so the bulk of housework is landing with me. So I bought a eufy 😂.

The below are my lunchtime cleaning tasks.

Bathrooms on Monday
Dusting upstairs on Tuesday while Eufy vacuums downstairs
Dusting downstairs while eufy vacuums upstairs on a Wednesday
Kitchen on a Thursday
Sheets and towels in the wash on Friday morning and hung out at lunchtime.

We both have another clean of the bathroom and kitchen over the weekend and run the eufy upstairs and downstairs again. We also do another couple of washes for clothes.

Inspired by flylady:
Day morning spray and wipe bathroom sink and loo.
Daily evening dining / kitchen clear up.

Glass doors off the hallway get done in a weekly dash round the high traffic areas with a sprayer and cloth. Also done weekly is a quick vacuum of those high traffic areas, quick mop of hard floors, clearing of obvious junk to bins, emptying and wiping bins, strip bed(s) wash on. In bathroom we clean shower screen and base weekly.

Windows get done on a circuit dictated by flylady website 😅. The system picks a weekly area in the home or zone (from 5) for more detailed clean and vacuum or mop (10/15 minutes) and I just copy where they are most weeks.
While on the weekly dash glass cleaning bit I'll wipe the windows in that week's zone if they look in need.

Hoover downstairs daily , upstairs couple times a week - but ds1 job
Dishwasher emptied daily - ds2 job along with walking dog
Dust once a week or if i see dust , less upstairs so should prob increase
Bathrooms once a week proper clean , wipe with wipe when ever see it needs it
Like toothpaste left in sink etc
Beds try to do every 10 days but prob creeps to fortnightly
Clean kitchen after dinner every night and wipe down stove
Inside cooker - pay someone and then keep it clean for few weeks , then fades so pay someone again a year later
Washing daily and never ending
Dh does hardly any cleaning/ housekeeping all week as working but does do a lot more at weekends and normally moves furniture downstairs to hoover under and tries to help catch up with washing etc

I started TOMM a couple of weeks ago. I did not do the bootcamp, just went straight to the tasks (available online) and I joined up for the fb page. It has already been a gamechanger for me.

I don't work Mondays so i try and do a few of the tasks ahead of time (the same ones - like cleaning the microwave and toaster for example).

My house has never been cleaner (and we have a cleaner!) and it is not overwhelming.

Do you have DC? My DD is 10 and cleans the downstairs toilet once a week for me and she’ll do other bits and pieces including keeping her own room clean. I like fresh towels and sheets on a Sunday night to set us up for the week so I always change towels and bedding on a Sunday and chuck the dirty ones straight into the washing machine followed by dryer so they’re all ready for the next week. Other clothes washing I usually do whenever the laundry basket is full but I do most on a quick cycle so can wash and dry and put away all in one day. We have a window cleaner who comes every 4-6 weeks so I do the insides after he’s done the outsides. Other than that, I do quite like Mrs Hinch’s freshen up Friday routine. Little and often stops it being so overwhelming Smile

Daily: laundry load, load and empty dishwasher, kitchen worktops wiped down.

Mid week (Wed): quick hoover.

Weekly (Fri) : dust and hoover everywhere, clean bathroom, wash towels, change beds, ironing.

Monthly: clean windows, clean fridge, clean washing machine and dishwasher, cooker, organise drawers, radiators etc.

Here’s mine:

  • daily: load & run dishwasher & wipe worktops, squeegee shower, & clear clutter by end of night

Weekdays - probably 40 min
Monday - clean kitchen & utility (& run load of clothes)
Tuesday- off
Wednesday- bathrooms (& run load of towels) / run robo vac upstairs / hoover stairs
Thursday- off
Friday- living room & home office (& washing)
Saturday- bedrooms & change beds (& wash sheets)& hoover stairs
Sunday - off

And deep cleaning (I do sat am but anytime is ok) - prob 45 min/1hr

W1 of the month- kitchen & utility (wipe down units, appliances etc) & wash door mats
W2 - living room & office (skirting , under sofas etc) & clean door frames, light switches etc
W3 - bathrooms (deep dusting lights, skirting etc) AND kitchen again
W4 - bedrooms
W5 - porch, outside & car

Deep cleaning is damp wiping all horizontal & vertical surfaces, getting under furniture, hoovering sofa, getting skirting etc

Getting it all straight the first time takes time, after that it’s not so bad

This is a variation on TOMM, but adapted to my house & routine p. Anything I don’t do in the week gets added to sat morning

theneverendinglaundry · 15/10/2021 20:37

The organised mum method is good.

I do mine over two days - on Tuesdays I dust and hoover the hallways, stairs, bedrooms and living rooms. Change the bed sheets. On Thursdays I clean the kitchen and the bathrooms. Change towels and bath mats.

Irregular jobs like window cleaning get done once in a blue moon when I can be arsed or when they're too filthy.

I’m following this! Now I’m back in the office more I’m finding things build up, piles of washing to do, the floors haven’t been mopped for a while etc.

My main issue is the clutter! My DH and DS don’t see it, my youngest DS is only 2 so obv makes a mess. And I get so annoyed and overwhelmed at the sheer amount of crap we’ve accumulated!
