Gift Soap with Bits Rant

McPancreas · 06/04/2021 08:09

My DP has started using some gift Soap we got years ago and it is the infuriating trying to be fancy type that has loads of bits in and on it.

As if it wasn't hard enough to keep sinks clean without depositing a fresh layer of detritus every single time you wash your hands!

This is literally the worst thing that has happened to anyone ever. Thank you for listening.

Surely it is common curtesy to give the sink a quick splash with water to make sure you don't leave any soap residue behind? I'm hardly Ms Hinch but would always do that, even at home.

LemonRoses · 06/04/2021 08:19

I feel you’re pain. I still remember the trauma I caused by throwing out all the cystitis causing bath bombs and soaps the children were given for Christmas. Baths full of glitter, dead leaves and other detritus. Unnecessary for washing. Entirely superfluous.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 06/04/2021 08:24

I do hate bits in soap.. especially hard bits that take the skin off your hands. Surely no-one’s hands are in need of exfoliation?

McPancreas · 06/04/2021 09:28

A quick splash wouldn't cut it with these ones, adheres like gorilla glue! Especially one with whole cloves on it, who even likes cloves?

Agreed with the exfoliation point, constant handsanitising and washing esp at work has pretty much given me contact dermatitis.

Ok I'll be the first LTB ;)
Or hide the soap...

Lemonroses I agree, bathombs that require a 10 minute exfoliating shower to dislodge the superfluous detritus are even worse!

HelloDulling · 06/04/2021 09:34

Throw it in the bin. Right now.

unfortunateevents · 06/04/2021 09:38

If it was given to you years ago, it's probably dry and horrible now anyway. Throw it out, buy a multi-pack of soap in the pound shop. Job done.

Whatalottachocca · 06/04/2021 09:39

I only ever use those soaps in my drawers to make my draws smell nice!😉

Mrsjayy · 06/04/2021 09:44

We had to ban bitty bathbombs. DD had some with half. A tree rose bushes and a tonne of glitter in them and off she would trot leaving the bath stained and plug hole blocked. Shock Op I'd ban the soap he clearly can't be trusted !

McPancreas · 06/04/2021 10:13

I'd love to go down the throwing it away route but that feels wasteful.

Also wanted to mention it is my DW who is the bitty soap using culprit, I guess the LTB could be translated to leave the b*tch? :-)

Sorry if I I've broken mumsnet protocol, new to posting here!

Why is there cloves in soap she must be wandering about smelling like the dentist ,Confused

KirstenBlest · 06/04/2021 12:12

Give the soaps to someone you don't like next birthday/Christmas.

BlackCatShadow · 06/04/2021 12:16

You're bonkers! Just chuck it in the bin. It's one bar of soap. Who cares if it's wasteful!?

insancerre · 06/04/2021 12:20

Just put it in the bin and replace with something that smells lovely

Mrsjayy · 06/04/2021 14:24

Just put it in the bin and replace with something that smells lovely

And not bitty!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 06/04/2021 14:27

I buy these for my friends. I had no idea they were so hated.

Mrsjayy · 06/04/2021 16:06

Lesson learned @DobbyTheHouseElk Grin

FeelinHappy · 06/04/2021 22:34

Totally agree. My kids love bathbombs but I only buy them the ones from Poundstretcher/B&M that have very little smell and no bits. Just bin the soaps OP, it'll make you happy :)

I'm an absolute sucker for those beautiful clear "slice" soaps though.

@Dobbythehouseelk don't worry I'm sure there are loads of people who love them. It's always a case of knowing your audience with gifts.

Broadbeanssleeping · 06/04/2021 22:37

Good for hands that have been gardening (I'm sorry)
Just sayin
