Can you recommend a really good brand of Bathtowel

Just that really. Any recommendations for a really good, luxurious towel that if washed and dried carefully will last for years? Is it worth spending more money or am I better off getting high street / supermarket towels. Looking at Christy but also heard Fox & Ivy at Tesco are fab and also Dunelm. Don't mind spending up to £50 for a bathsheet but no point doing that if a cheaper brand is better. Looking for plain white so they don't need to be particularly stylish. I know it's not the most scintillating topic but would love some personal recommendations. Thanks all!

@CoffeeBeansGalore

I find Asda ones are good, better than Tesco. Thick & fluffy, wash well.
I was in Asda today and a woman in there was buying a trolly load of towels - apparently for a children's home - washed every day and she said they are really good and wash up well

I've found the Costco plain white towels are pretty good.

I’ve found Dunelm the nicest as well. I thought you weren’t supposed to use fabric conditioner on towels at all, that that can make them go crispy?

My towels used to be lovely (they’re a complete mix but the Dunelm ones were/are the best) until we moved house and don’t have a tumble dryer any more, and my mental health took a nose dive and haven’t been on top of things, DP kept putting fabric conditioner in every wash when towels did manage to get washed (annoying as I have a written down laminated laundry plan which says no conditioner in the towel wash!) and all dried hung on racks indoors, they are now all like dry weetabix :-(

Is it possible to have nice fluffy towels without a tumble dryer? I want to just buy all new and start again but seems pointless if it’s the care that’s the problem. With the hours we work using a line outside just isn’t a sensible option. I will get a new tumble dryer but won’t be for a few months as garage roof needs replacing first.

Look at the GSM - grams per sqm.
This goes up to around 900 for the best towels and indicates the density.

White Company

I bought three thick cotton ones from Asda ten years ago. They are still thick and lovely, and going strong. Quite unbelievably, they are the best towels I have ever bought.

I've just ordered John Lewis Egyptian cotton. I'll report back.

Totally agree with comments on Dunelm's towels.

I can't remember when I bought the first lot but it was before DP and I moved in together so about 10 years ago. I've bought more of the same colour since but I can't tell the difference between the 10 year old ones or the newer ones.

We have hard water, though I use softener tablets, and I dry them in my wiring cupboard but they're always fluffy still.

Very reasonably priced too.

*airing cupboard. Stupid autocorrect!

Dunelm hotel collection. I bought 2 white sets 10 years ago and they still look brand new.

Fabric conditioner makes towels feel slimy when they get wet and means they are less effective at drying. It doesn't make them crispy. I think it was Which? which advised a hot cottons wash with far less washing powder than you'd think and no fabric conditioner a few years ago.

I've come to also say Christy. I discovered these by chance years ago at tk max. then got more when we moved. lasts years, still look new. also make the Wimbledon towels

Watching with interest.
I am a bath towel killer. Sad
They all become hard and horrible in too short a time.
I wash at 40 degrees. I line dry them in my garage. We have soft water. I don't use fabric conditioner anymore.

My Egyptian cotton arrived, they do feel a bit too soft but I think they will roughen up with use.

Less detergent and some bicarb in the washing machine. Maybe a build up of detergent is causing stiffness.
womaninatightspot · 07/04/2021 21:44

Also you can iron them with lots of steam but that way madness lies.

Thank you.
