I have a washer dryer, whenever I tumble dry, clothes never smell of softener anymore, just the tumble dried smell which I hate!! Is it possible to tumble dry clothes so they smell of softener after? Any tips would be great 😊

Have you tried dryer sheets? They don’t leave a massive amount of fragrance but I find they do help. The only ones I’ve tried are the Waitrose ones, but I find them useful.

Thanks for your post, yes tried them and it makes no difference! I don’t overload or dry for too long, I don’t understand how other peoples tumble drying smells nice!

Semi dry your clothes before putting them in the dryer. The you are just finishing them off. Less time in the dryer and a much nicer smell. Plus the dryer sheets. Lovely smelling clothes.

Get yourself a bunch of fabric scraps the size of a piece of a4, old T-shirt's etc. Then a water tight box. Put the fabric scraps in the box, add water 80% water and 20% fabric conditioner mix. Just enough to make them damp. Not saturated. Or you can use essential oil/perfume and water. Just in fabric piece with each load in the dryer. Works a treat. ( I use clean odd socks as I have a seemingly endless supply of the buggers).

Other alternative is to get wool dryer balls and add a few drops of essential oil to those between each load.

I do not see the point of having a tumble dryer and part drying the clothes beefier drying them. That's insane.

Does this actually work?!!

I tried putting a cloth in soaked in water and zoflora before but it didn’t make any difference 🤦🏼‍♀️

You should never put essential oils in a tumble dryer, there's a risk of combustion. Please don't do this.

Maybe your washing machine needs a maintenance wash? I always thought it was the heat that kind of "set" the smell of the washing powder and stuff, but if that's not doing its job maybe the drier can't either?

Workinghardeveryday · 13/03/2021 11:28

I do a maintenance wash about once a month, clothes always come out the wash smelling lovely. Do you think it’s because it’s a washer dryer?!

My clothes have always smelled nicer from the tumble drier than if I hang them. I’ve used lots of different dryers at different place so it sounds like your problem may indeed be because it’s a washer/dryer.

ChiefBabySniffer · 13/03/2021 11:38

@RememberWhenWe I'm talking about 2-3 drops in half a pint of water. For the willow balls, I've never had a single issue and I run two tumble dryers several times a day.

viixie · 13/03/2021 11:41

Following as my clothes always come out smelling just like tumble driers too and this is my second tumble dryer 😳

Even oil residue after washing can cause a fire www.cambsfire.gov.uk/news-and-incidents/news/2017/06/2017-06-16-fire-service-warns

Really, don't do it, there are multiple warnings by fire services.

I must be the only person who really likes that dense warm tumble dryer smell Hmm

Workinghardeveryday · 13/03/2021 12:34

I so wish someone had the answer 🤞🏻

Try the iron dry setting this will keep some moisture in meaning the fabric softener scent remains. Fully drying will cook the scent out. They will feel damp coming out but the heat of the clothes will dry within 30 mins as they move from a humid dryer to the much less humid air outside. This combined with a cloth or sponge trick mentioned above (and of course always removing the lint) will give great results.
