Exciting conversation topic: why are there such polar opinions about vacuums (I want to get a new one)

Currently have a Henry. Vacuum function wise it's just good, through usage wise it drives me round the twist. It's bulky and heavy, it gets stuck in places easily, it doesn't store away well and the freaking stupid pipe part of the hose comes apart about 7,000 times while I'm using it every freaking time I use it.

I have just done a run around the house with it cursing its heaviness and the stupid fally apart tube, Then when I had finished I pick it up and the top came off. I had planned on waiting till he died until I replaced him (but he's never going to is he NEVER) but I have had enough of him - he can pack his bags and bog off to someone else.

But if I look upon here possibly replacements it seems the opinions vary massively. A Shark is both the best ever and dreadful, Dyson is a both a brand people would never buy again and never get anything different. and so on. (Those brands I've mentioned are also a bit €€€ aren't they?).

There are about a zillion different vacuums out there. Help!!!

We have a Sebo Airbelt D4. Would never buy any other brand now. Even though it is bagged, bags are nowhere near the hassle they are made out to be, and the sanction is always great.

Have previously had a Dyson (and still have a handheld one) but their suction runs out over time, the filters get clogged and need frequent cleaning, and Mr Dyson himself seems to be a bit of a nobhead.

Thanks. These are two vacuums brands I've actually never heard of -more to consider Grin.

They look less cumbersome than the Henry to store (which is another thing that bugs me about the Henry).

Totally with you. I have hated ever single vacuum we've ever bought and I fully expect this to continue.

I've just bought a new one actually and then discovered it's a Which "Don't Buy"... yet I prefer it to our Miele which has much stronger reviews. Wondering if maybe we do just need 2 - something like a Miele cylinder or a Henry for good suckiness, and an upright for powered-brushes-going-round-yness.

I think the thing is that no one hoover answers all problems - so people like the one that is the biggest problem in their house - but it won't suit everyone.
I have carpeted upstairs - that really suits an upright with a revolving brush. But its crap on my carpeted stairs. And is not great for my tile and laminate downstairs which suits a stiff brush and cordless stick type of thing (but that would just not work on my carpets upstairs)
Add into that - pets and/or long hair...
I hate the fact I have 2 vacuums but can't work out which one to get rid off and can't find an alternative to replace them both...

I think it might be pre-European restrictions and post - European restrictions. Or maybe it's people with carpets vs. people with hard floors.

I'm on my 3rd Dysan and it's so powerful that I can lift the entire sitting room carpet off its underlay. I love it.

I went from a Henry to a shark. Hated it until I realised I need to regularly clean the filters and now I love it

Have a Miele cylinder and I have to say it is the best. I need to buy another one actually as it is on last legs. I did buy a cordless one to supplement but it is a bit of a pain as just nowhere near as good snd end up needing to do sooner! But maybe I should have bought a better cordless one...
