Help!! I washed my pillow and duvet

Hi,

I am in a bit of a dilemma 😩 wondering if I can get any tips or advice.

I have the most comfortable pillows and duvet, it's fluffy and bouncy and feels like sleeping on a cloud.

However, I've noticed they smell like factory/chemical as it's brand new and so I decided this morning to go laundrette and get the duvet washed and dried.

Pillows done at home one by one and then put in the dryer.

All items were carefully washed using the right temperature/spin as it's polyester. Similarly drying was done on low heat with two tennis balls wrapped in socks.

Also whilst drying I have paused the dryer to give the pillows a good shake.

I just can't for the life of me understand why it's still lumpy?? I really need help as it's frustrating me even after being so careful and patient!

I regret even washing them now 😞

Any tips for this crazy nesting first time mother soon-to-pop in a few weeks??

Pillows never (even when they declare they are washable) wash well. For new I would have just left them in a spare room to air for a few days, we always regret washing ours and end up buying new after a couple of lumpy nights.
Where did you get them? As they are so new I would be tempted to return them and say that, despite following manufacturers washing instructions, they are now unusable. Or you could email the manufacturer and see what they suggest?

Have you tried refluffing with a tennis ball in the dryer with them?

they need to shake about a lot more. Sometimes you can do it by taking out each item, shaking it, and putting it to dry a bit more. The clumps you can feel are probably damp in the middle.

if you have a washing line, it will dry them but not shake them much so you have to turn them.

some duvets need to go in the giant dryer at the laundrette. They take longer to dry right through to the middle than you think. You have to do it before they start to rot.
