OMG I cannot get glitter out of my towels!!!! 😱

I can’t believe what a problem this has turned out to be! I made the stupid mistake of doing crafting with some glitter involved over home schooling. The glitter then transferred to a towel through the kids bit washing their hands properly before they dried. I then washed a load of towels together and since then all the towels have glitter embedded in them.

The glitter then transfers to our hands or bodies each time we use them. I have tried washing them repeatedly I’m a high tell wash with Vanish and there’s seems to be no improvement whatsoever. I’m starting to think I’m going to have to bin them.

Anyone had a similar issue and solved it?

Hang outside to dry. When totally dry, beat hard with a wooden spoon. Turn sideways on line repeat. Kids enjoy this activity.

Embrace the glitter.

Always embrace the glitter.

Glitter is like vampires. Neither must ever be invited over the threshold of your home.

FelicityPike · 08/03/2021 20:35

It’s not called the herpes of the craft world for nothing.

Anyone had a similar issue and solved it?

Treat it as a mindfulness activity and remove each piece of glitter by hand?

To be honest, you're buggered.

You find the glittery bastards in years to come.

2 options:

  1. Bin the towels
  2. Embrace the glitter and live your life full shine

Dry the towel then vacuum it

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 08/03/2021 20:40

Let them dry and hoover it off?

Scarby9 · 08/03/2021 20:40

Scientists use glitter to demonstrate how viruses and bacteria are passed on through touch on surfaces...
You will still be finding glitter in crevices and randomly on the middle of your cheek for years to come.

I got glitter all over the kitchen diner carpet at my parents. A year later there was still glitter. My mother bought a new carpet as it was due for replacement

As pomp said peg them on line on a windy day. Have you tried vacuuming the towels?

WheresMyAlex · 08/03/2021 20:43

Nothing helpful to add except I skimmed over the title and read ‘towels’ as ‘bowels’ Grin wondered what on earth you’d been up to!

Ihatesandwiches · 08/03/2021 20:44

An ex boyfriend - minding his own business, standing waiting to be served at the bar - had a tube of glitter poured down his shirt as a dare by a girl on a hen do. He shook it out. I was still finding glitter in my sofa 5 years later! Embrace the glitter or buy new towels! (I had to embrace, as I couldn't afford a new sofa!).

ChameleonClara · 08/03/2021 20:44

I have a pathological hatred of glitter, it is entirely banned from our house, so this is giving me palpitations..

I can think of four options:
Hoover
Carpet beater
Sellotape
Fire

Good luck!!!

CreamRose · 08/03/2021 20:45

Do you have DDs? Grin

hilariousnamehere · 08/03/2021 20:47

Wait till your kids are old enough to burlesque 😂 I'd embrace the glitter or do the wooden spoon thing a pp suggested :)

hilariousnamehere · 08/03/2021 20:48

(glitter is banned from my mum's house but I have it in my own now)

DobbyTheHouseElk · 10/03/2021 18:59

Tumble dryer?

I love glitter and never find it anywhere random. Maybe embrace the glitter.

Sacreblue · 10/03/2021 19:09

When my DS was little he told a (glitter loving) friend she was like fairy snail, leaving a glittery trail everywhere she went Grin

I second beating the towel on the line, or wearing a rubber glove to stroke over them, but only based on cat hair, no glitter has entered the home we are currently in.

hilariousnamehere · 10/03/2021 21:26

Fairy snail!!!

HighInTheHills · 10/03/2021 21:37

Tumble dry them on cool, preferably with one of those tumble dryer balls.

This trick also works a treat at getting dog hair/fluff off bedding etc
