Natural way to clean the oven that works?

Just wondering... My oven really smells, no matter how much I clean it with the Lake land oven cleaner. There's always a chemical type smell that fills the house when I heat it up.
I'm going to try cleaning it without chemicals today. Google search came up with bicarbonate and vinegar. Dubious. But anyone with a better suggestion, or does this actually work?
Thanks in advance

those are chemicals. As is water.

bicarbonate and vinegar neutralise each other, leaving sodium acetate and liberating carbon dioxide. I don't think sodium acetate is a cleaner.

what is the active ingredient in whatever you are using?

Astonish oven cleaner paste is brilliant - it's an orange paste that comes with a scrubby sponge and costs about £3. You don't need to wear gloves, there's no chemical smell and it gets my oven sparkling clean.

I've just bought the Astonish oven paste this week and can concur that it is really good. It's on special buy in Aldi this week and I have been back for a second (along with other things I needed).

Thank you, will look into trying astonish Smile

Koh. Works wonders, no smells.

Koh, interesting name. Thank you

@WineInTheWillows I have Koh but thought it would be too runny for oven cleaning. Do you use the green cloth to wipe it off, or does it need a bit more elbow grease?

Palavah · 22/02/2021 21:25

I used bicarb and vinegar about 5 years ago. Still wiping it off.

Spray on, leave for a couple of minutes, wipe off with anything you've got to hand. It works orders of magnitude better if it's on a flat surface, so get the glass out of the oven door and lay it flat before spritzing. Honestly, I love doing my oven. The before and after the first time I did it with koh was incredibly satisfying.

I do have these 'diamond sponges' I got with why koh kit and use those. Think it would work with a regular one though.

I couldnt find koh on amazon, where is it from?
My oven stains are very weird, it's like smooth dark brown gloss paint. Really difficult to remove...

You have to Google it and buy from the supplier. I saw it recommended on the Team TOMM group (The Organised Mum Method) on Facebook. I had about four years of grease baked onto my oven- came straight off.

Thanks WineInTheWillows Smile
