Clothes dye on radiator

Left something to dry on the white bathroom radiator and some clothes dye has transferred onto it 😭 this has never happened before! I have scrubbed with normal cleaning products but to no avail. Any tips on removing the stain? Apart from painting over it please, thats the absolute last resort if nothing else works.

Hi I am having the same problem 😫 May I ask what worked for you in the end?

mrswoo55 · 09/05/2022 13:23

i have had the same problem and tried everything from white wine vinegar to tequila - nothing worked. Then I tried nail polish remover and bingo! Did it really carefully and wiped it clean with a damp cloth afterwards- fabric stain has completely disappeared from my white radiator.

Fucking love Mumsnet! Did a search and this top tip (nail varnish remover) completely sorted the dye stains on my radiator.
Thanks @mrswoo55 Flowers

Hi. Was it an acetone style nail polish remover? Did you try the magic doing as well? Thanks

everythingisstillawesome · 09/11/2023 11:00

Hi! I used standard Tesco nail varnish remover with acetone which worked on but then tried some nail remover pads which were acetone free and they worked even better. I didn't need to try the magic eraser, that would have been my next go to. 😊

I have the same problem..
Did nail polish remover remove white paint off of the radiator as well? @mrswoo55
These are the stains I'm trying to remove and I tried several cleaning products, including bleach..

Don't know about dye from fabrics, but I imagine old tea stains are just as bad. I'd left them because I didn't have much hope of anything getting them off, however this post inspired me to have a try. Nail polish remover (acetone free) had no effect, but the magic eraser with some cream cleaner (not Cif) did the job. I think it was the eraser that did most, if not all, of the work (with some elbow grease courtesy of me). Paintwork completely unscathed, wouldn't even know there had been tea stains on the radiator.
