Cleaning frosted glass in front door

We've had some - ahem - 'difficult' tenants, and towards the end their kids went a bit feral. I know this because of the forensic evidence. Exbihit A was the phrase 'STAY OUT OF MY ROOM' carefully scratched into the period door of one of the bedrooms with a protractor, which we've had to sand down a bit. Exhibit B was the mysterious oily stuff splashed from child height up to the ceiling on all the walls, probably done in anger, which required specialist redecoration. Exhibit C is the same mysterious stuff (we think) splashed all over the frosted glass panels in the front door. And it's with the frosted glass where, Dear MNetters, I would welcome your advice and input, so I can hopefully avoid having to replace them at considerable cost.

I've had a go at it with alcohol wipes and then with washing up liquid and water, and professional cleaners have had a go at it, to no avail. It just looks like there are drips all over it. What to do?

Elbow Grease spray (from B and M/,Home Bargains)gets through most things. Or pink stuff paste left on for 10 mins. Failing that new glass.

Good thinking! I have ordered some Elbow Grease spray, maybe that will work.

Well you can remove a dried on oily stain from clothes with a paste made from baking soda. Could you try that, and leave it to sit for a bit?

Is it raised? Would a razor blade scraper type thing take it off?

Can you post a picture OP? I've had to clean many a window post renovation I've found the pink stuff paste great and a window scraper but if you're window is textured (you say frosted) it may not work.

I am not down there now, I came back for a hot dinner as it's cold out! But it's a bit like this kind of glass in a different design. www.pilkington.com/en-gb/uk/householders/decorative-glazing?gclid=CjwKCAiAo5qABhBdEiwAOtGmbvPvsmE0F_Hc4OT83_qNXGZy5IHZ2FOXRuB8lRZA9BmgzsuGIUVqnRoCwL8QAvD_BwE&gclid=CjwKCAiAo5qABhBdEiwAOtGmbvPvsmE0F_Hc4OT83_qNXGZy5IHZ2FOXRuB8lRZA9BmgzsuGIUVqnRoCwL8QAvD_BwE

Our frosted bathroom glass is flat on the inside though

BoffinMum · 12/02/2021 22:33

Bar keepers friend mixed to a paste?

BoffinMum · 15/02/2021 08:48

Status update - I went down there last night and sprayed Elbow Grease all over it, and polished it off. I think it may have worked but as it was dark I couldn't completely tell. I will go down later in the daylight and inspect, and report back.
