Removing permanent marker from an oak laminated table

WellTidy · 10/02/2021 10:13

DS has managed to draw on the table top using a bright green marker pen, similar to a whiteboard pen. I can't get it off and I am worried about using something very abrasive due to the laminate.

Any ideas please?

Go over it with proper whiteboard (as in wipe off) pen.

Then wipe both of them off at once.

Try nail polish remover or Bartender's Friend (test in an unobtrusive spot first)

Toothpaste, I'm sure I saw.

You honestly don't need solvents or abrasives for permanent markers - I PROMISE that a drywipe, non permanent pen will render permanent marker wipeable on a laminate-type/smooth surface.

I went nuts with vodka and a cloth when my son did this and it came off.

RandomMess · 12/02/2021 19:59

@NeverDropYourMoonCup yes I can testify to this. Weird but works!

CakeIsEternal · 12/02/2021 19:59

The whiteboard on thing does work by the way. I just didnt have one so I reached for the vodka!

Toothpaste worked when my daughter did exactly this

Thank you!

I work in schools. The number of giant (and mostly deformed) cocks and balls I have removed from desks, doors, display board perspex covers, windows, windowsills, whiteboards and computer screens just by drawing over the top of Sharpie/permanent marker with a dry wipe pen doesn't bear thinking about.

Please, OP, don't use anything abrasive. You really, really don't need to.

LOL Mooncup! Grin
One of the universities I worked at had the pleasure of a massive cock and balls drawn at scale on a huge lawn with weedkiller. We enjoyed looking at that so much from the first floor walkway. So original

My husband is a carpenter - spray Lynx on it then wipe. Works for us!

My son did this in a rental cottage, I nearly died when I saw the mess.

I got it off using a damp cloth and biological washing powder in a paste.

if polished surface has scratched use shoe polish to hide marks
