Why are baby boys clothes so awful?

Does anyone else have a problem finding boys clothes (0-12 months) that aren't horrible stiff denim, hoodies, covered in slogans like "Cheeky Monkey" and basically just look cheap, nasty and very chavvy?

I want my 6 month old to look like a 6 month old and not like an adolescent.

I agree, and everything is available in blue, dark blue, grey and camoflage.

I always try to get alternative colours and materials whenever I can - have stocked up in several sizes of orange trousers (which were a hit this year) in the sale. I did manage to find quite a number of nice pairs of dungarees for ds when he was little (much the best clothes for him then). Some of favourites from jfb (John Lewis) bought off ebay and similar.

Its really depressing when you go to a store that has about 50% more stock for girls, going from pretty to practical - and then boring, blue things for boys.

have you tried H&M?

i have taken up knitting and got the sewing machine out! i also tye dye babygrows. i have 4 boys so i know exactly how you feel, times 4! next have some nice stuff and disney stuff is usually quite lovely. i tend to get stuff off ebay. its the fact that when you look in a sale there might be a rack 1 metre long with boys stuff on and then 15 racks with girls stuff really annoys me.

granny slippers is right you can get lovely bright colours for boys fron h&m. a lot of boys stuff is vile in other shops esp the i'm so naughty, here comes trouble stuff yuck! i say no to any writing on childrens clothes! They are all evil

american apparel is nice, not a word in sight and huge range of colours (my DS has a fine lemon yellow top and black trousers). good in the sales as well.

john lewis is pretty good for things without writing, but the colours are boring.

some nice stuff in zara atm.

boden, monsoon and some next stuff, john lewis etc...
Buy off Ebay or wait for the sales buy in advance

Buying from Gymboree.com in the Us can be good too, exchange rate is good and as it comes through Germany you never have to pay VAT. Well I never have yet...

I sympathise
at least dd has the option of dresses/ skirts/ trous/ dungarees/ tights / jeans etc on, even if they are all various shades of pink.
Agree H&M is good - try also Vertbaudet, La Redoute and (wonderously) Jako-o for lovely stripey stuff

Marks and Spencer tend to have brighter colours than most and without all those logos.

Gap do nice jeans that are lined with jersey and are so lovely and soft they don't feel like jeans at all. DS had them when he started crawling and wore a big hole in the knees, was delighted he'd finally worn something out!
