Washing machine

My Indesit is on its last legs. My first washing machine lasted about 20 years, but after that they don't last nearly as long.
Is it worth buying an expensive model? Do they last longer?

I've been looking, & a lot of models take hours for a 40 C wash, instead of the 1.5 hours max that I want.

Any thoughts or recommendations, please?

We’ve got one of these and it has been superb. I think it has a 5year warranty. Some very quick cycles - from 15mins.

Normal cycle @40degrees takes 1.02 and if you use the bubble feature is takes 30mins extra

I’ve just replaced my broken Indesit with a very reasonably priced Sharp. (Can’t remember exactly how much but under £300. I don’t believe WMs are ever worth going expensive on.)

It has a “Daily” 60 minute cycle which has a default 60degree temp but can be turned down easily in ten degree increments when you set the cycle.

We bought it in a panic on 23 December when the other one broke, but I am quite taken with it. Lots of handy features including a “rapid” 15 minute wash (30 degrees) and a sensitive/handwash. Also has a 90 was for towels and dishcloths which not all machines do now.

Shout if you want the model number. Smile

Washing machines fall into many price and quality categories as with all consumer products. The choice essentially being cheap and cheerful and so more disposable with cheaper less durable components so hopefully last a few years after initial warranty unless high throughput user. Or alternatively I would rather spend the extra and go for a high end trusted usually most reliable manufacturer like Miele which may cost twice or more initially but tend to last two or three times longer and so essentially potentially much better long term value and less hassle. Some used to have ten years warranty as testament to its durability as designed to last. And from my experience they do! I used to have a expensive Dyson with the innovative dual counter rotating drums but was very problematic! Don't go for all the bells and whistles but just the basic wash programs that you need. I always recommend the trusty boring plain looking cheaper Miele with smaller but honeycomb drum circa £600. Make sure it is manufactured in the German factory as these days some German Siemens and Bosch etc for the European market are made in Portugal too and trend to be cheaper with less durable components.

Following that link has pleased me as it has our Samsung machine as number 1.

Not Beko. The drawer on mine leaks down the front of the machine and stains it. I would buy a Samsung if I were buying again!
