How much to get curtains blackout lined

Have found the perfect curtains on eBay, except the lining looks thin. Anyone knows roughly how much it would be to get them professionally lined? They are about 2m by 1.5m. I am in London. Realise I’ll have to wait until shops reopen.

I can't help you with a professional cost but I have bought blackout lining and hand sewn them onto the back of curtains myself before. It's really easy to do.

That’s interesting, I don’t have a machine and assumed hand sewing was out of the question ( I don’t want to do a poor job). My sewing is limited to replacing buttons!

You can buy linings that hook on to the back of curtains quite cheaply too. Amazon sell them and though perhaps not as good as a professional job, they are pretty good if you can get the right size!

Depending how they're hung, you don't need to sew the blackout linings in at all. You just thread the curtain hooks through the linings at the same time as threading them through the curtains themselves. So the blackout linings just hang behind the curtains, on the same hooks.

I'm explaining this very badly, but John Lewis (and no doubt other places) sell blackout linings that work on this basis. I'm sure you can google pictures/videos of the process. It's incredibly easy.

The linings come in different sizes. The width can be adjusted by pulling a kind of string to gather/pleat the top of the lining. The drop is less easy to adjust. You will probably find that one of the standard drops will do. If not, it would be very easy to buy a slightly longer one and take it up using Wonderweb or similar.

I love blackout linings and have them in all the bedrooms. But I've never sewn one in.

Obviously this doesn't work if you have a curtain which hangs from eyelets of anything weird like that. But on "normal" curtains it works a treat.

If you buy the black put linings and hook them on and they are too long you can just cut them shorter as the fabric doesn't fray!

I bought blackout lining which already has the curtain header on it and depending on the length you can do as above, hook into the same curtain hook or hook them into the curtain header on the curtains.

Far cheaper and easy to separate when you wash them.

Thanks everyone and @QuakerShaker you explain it very well. I have actually found the right thing, again on eBay and at the right size so that is great. My local and excellent curtains alterations place is sadly closing so I’ll go solo on this and just hook the lining on!
