I think it is user error for those saying it switches off when wet, it does it for safety reasons. Why is it getting wet repeatedly? Are you using a big enough pan? Why is your water/wet contents spluttering out?
I have had an induction hob for over 7 years. Love it, it looks brand new. I have one where I can combine zones as if the pan is too large for the surface then it doesn't heat up the whole pan meaning the edges are cooler than the middle. It wasn't cheap though, over £800.
If you are unsure you can buy a plug in surface one from Amazon or Lakeland and try it out. We did that as we were having a kitchen extension built so bought a 2 ring induction hob from Amazon to cook on whilst we had no kitchen but bought it in advance to try it out.
The other thing I love about it is that when the children were learning to cook they pick the cooking pot off the hob using an oven glove and there is no naked flame to set the oven glove on fire, I mean the long bit that connects the two hand bits.
You can lock the controls firstly to stop the hob being turned on and whilst cooking. We also use it for cleaning. Cleaning it is sooo easy. No little pan stand things, no discoloured rings, it cools down fast and tells you if it is still hot, I clean it with hot damp cloth with washing up liquid on and then dry it with an e-cloth.
