Induction hob

I’m getting a new cooker, changing from gas to electric. Is it worth paying quite a lot extra for an induction hob?

Induction is great. Fast to boil water and really controllable so easy to so a gentle simmer.

And easy to clean

Mumdiva99 · 28/12/2020 23:11

Yes. 100%. It's so quick to change the temperature up and down. It's super easy to clean.

We've had an induction hob for the last six years and I would never go back to a gas hob.

pickingdaisies · 28/12/2020 23:17

Yes, do it. Fast, controllable, Easy. To. Clean!!!

propertyhell · 28/12/2020 23:18

Yes. We have a 'top brand' one and it's amazing.

Peppermintlover · 28/12/2020 23:28

Yes. I had gas. Moved house to an electric hob - hated it!!! So hard to clean and boils everything and if you turn it down takes ages to respond. Changed to induction and haven't looked back, very similar to gas in how you can control the heat. Had to buy new pans but still worth it!!

Lindtnotlint · 28/12/2020 23:29

Yes yes yes.

1starwars2 · 28/12/2020 23:35

Yes, the best thing in our new kitchen is the induction hob.

I bloody hate mine and really miss gas hob.

The wretched thing turns off when it gets wet, and it is much harder to control than gas. Perhaps they are much better than traditional electric, but if there is a way of holding onto a gas hob, I would.

parietal · 28/12/2020 23:58

yes - make sure you get a powerful one and it is great. i will never go back to gas.

^^ me too

Stuff boils ‘differently’ it just splutters everywhere. Pans slide all over the place so you have to hang on to the pan in a way I didn’t with gas. And yes once it has spluttered water everywhere it just refuses to work.
Hate mine with a passion.

I've got an induction and think it's great had gas previously. So much easier to clean too.

Annebronte · 29/12/2020 08:33

Yes. It’s very sensitive and super fast. Also easy to clean and provides and extra flat surface when not in use. Those who complain they get wet, pans splitter etc are perhaps using too high a setting?

buckeejit · 29/12/2020 16:51

So much better just because it's easy to clean. The thought of cleaning a gas hob now is awful

LonelyBlueBauble · 29/12/2020 17:43

I think it is user error for those saying it switches off when wet, it does it for safety reasons. Why is it getting wet repeatedly? Are you using a big enough pan? Why is your water/wet contents spluttering out?

I have had an induction hob for over 7 years. Love it, it looks brand new. I have one where I can combine zones as if the pan is too large for the surface then it doesn't heat up the whole pan meaning the edges are cooler than the middle. It wasn't cheap though, over £800.

If you are unsure you can buy a plug in surface one from Amazon or Lakeland and try it out. We did that as we were having a kitchen extension built so bought a 2 ring induction hob from Amazon to cook on whilst we had no kitchen but bought it in advance to try it out.

The other thing I love about it is that when the children were learning to cook they pick the cooking pot off the hob using an oven glove and there is no naked flame to set the oven glove on fire, I mean the long bit that connects the two hand bits.

You can lock the controls firstly to stop the hob being turned on and whilst cooking. We also use it for cleaning. Cleaning it is sooo easy. No little pan stand things, no discoloured rings, it cools down fast and tells you if it is still hot, I clean it with hot damp cloth with washing up liquid on and then dry it with an e-cloth.

I love mine but it is accompanied by a hot plate and simmer plate. I bought an Everhot 100i.

Love induction, wouldn’t have anything else now. Quick, controllable and SO easy to clean. There does seem to be a difference in how well they perform though, we have used ones in air bnb’s that have taken much longer to heat up and seem to have to be run at full blast - this may be where you get the spluttering.
