How to clean the water tank for the tumble drier? Help please!

The water collection tank in My condenser tumble drier needs cleaning, it has kind of orangey brown sludge on the side. It is emptied regularly but it looks like it needs a proper clean. I have tried Googling but all the info/videos just show how to clean the actual condenser. Any ideas please?

I put a tab of Milton sterilising stuff in everynow and again, it seems to keep the gunk at bay.

Thank you, I will have a look for some of those. Sludge was the word I was looking for!!

It shouldn't be dirty.
Was there any nails or screws or metal contaminants?

olivo · 27/12/2020 13:49

D'oh, I meant gunk! Confused

No, it's orangey stuff, more like slime not rust. Like of you leave a pot of water for too long ( eg the kids playmobil swimming pool!) It is a tide mark, I'm guessing g showing the level it sat at ( maybe over the summer?) when it hadn't been emptied.

Ah I get it.
I thought it was fresh gunk Smile

How are you getting gunk in the water tank? When I have finished tumble drying I drain the tank and leave it out to dry before putting it back.

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/12/2020 13:57

It's stagnant water. The sludge is bacteria/fungal.

Fill with bleach solution and let it sit for awhile and then empty.

Empty after every use in future.

I do normally empty it but I suspect it was left with some in over the summer so yes, bacterial build up. Will use Milton/ bleach solution.
Thanks all!

I heard tumble dryer water was best for the iron.
I do neither so can't confirm Grin
