Washing machines with cycles that don't last a life time?

If so, please tell me about it! This year we moved into a property with an integrated machine. I hate it. I have the option of a 30min, 2.5kg cycle, or everything else is 3-4 hours long!

Does anyone have a machine they recommend that has the option of a quicker cycle that will do a full family load?

Without being rude, have a look at the manual. Many have a button where you pick the programme first then press the button to change the length of the cycle. On mine it is an R button for Rapid, I get 3 time options on some cycles

HarrietPotterska · 19/12/2020 18:50

@PurpleMustang - no, not rude at all! Yes, have read the flipping manual from cover to cover - it's just a rubbish machine!

What do you have? Do you like it??

I really like our Samsung Ecobubble and it has a quick daily wash option (about an hour) that I use most of the time. If I think things need a bit more cleaning I’ll add a bubble soak (half an hour). I only really use the other settings for specific materials or when things are really dirty 🙂

Fozzleyplum · 20/12/2020 06:34

I use a 39 minute, 30 degree cycle for almost everything, and a 1.5 hour 60 degree wash for white shirts and white cotton bedlinen. I don't think longer cycles are necessary.

I have a cheap Logik 8kg washing machine (£200) and it does an eco wash in 1hr 20. Even the longer washes are not that long (~2hours). Would recommend as everything is cleaned well and is fine for us (2 adults, a baby and dogs)

WhamRap · 20/12/2020 06:55

Mine is AEG Lavamat Protex 7kg. I can do 20 min washes. Every programme has 2 or 3 time options and my usual wash is just over an hour

BlueCowWonders · 20/12/2020 07:02

Like Penville ^ I have a Samsung ecobubble and really rate it
But in your case, can you use the timer function and run it overnight? I do this with the economy wash (4.5 hours) and hang up in the morning.

'Daily wash' is 1 hr 04 min for either 40' or 60'.
It also starts a cottons wash at ?3+ hours but calculates how long it needs and generally reduces the time automatically to less than 1.5 hours.
But it's not integrated, if you're hoping to replace yours with similar.

We're a family of 5 and I keep on top with overnight and small regular loads, having looked at large capacity and decided against.

Arh ok. Its a Hoover one. Been great so far

HarrietPotterska · 20/12/2020 11:13

I'm sold on the Samsung EcoBubble! I had a washer dryer version a few years ago and forgotten about how they recalculate the time!

With my Bosch you can do a quick version of every cycle.

FreshfieldsGal · 20/12/2020 11:29

Also really rate the Samsung Ecobubble.
Best washing machine I've ever had! I've had mine for a few years, used almost every day and still going strong.

Nsky · 20/12/2020 11:48

If you are not renting, can you replace it

HarrietPotterska · 20/12/2020 16:05

@Nsky was that to me? Not renting, no!

Same here, Samsung ecobubble. Adore it! My tumble dryer on the other hand ... gnashes teeth. Heap of rubbish, new so am stuck with it. An indesit. Hate!!

ivykaty44 · 20/12/2020 16:11

I’ve got a beko which has a half hour 30 degree wash

We use that for most of our stuff

There is 60degree wash and 40 for whites and coloureds which are all under 90 minutes

Or a 120 minutes + 90 degree wash

Never use

The machine will hold a single duvet

And it’s used about 4/5 times a week and rarely does anything but the half hour wash which is adequate

TrailingLobelias · 23/12/2020 09:10

Does the washing not smell if you only use low temp washes? I find the bacteria/mold build up smell noticeable, especially if I leave the washing in the machine after it's done or it doesn't dry quickly. I only wash delicates and my office clothes at 30.

I tried low temp for environmental reasons for a while but went back to 60.
I put on a 60 wash on the long 3.5 hr cycle in the morning and hang it up when I get home. My last machine had a timer so I could set it to come on at lunchtime. But if the clothes are clean it doesn't cause any smell if you leave them wet for a while- you only have to time your day around washes if they're low temp.

My Samsung tells me when it's time to run a cleaning cycle (70') so there's no build up

We have a cheap Bush 9kg one from Argos bought at the end of 2018. It has a one hour 60 degree wash which is amazing - always rinses well, really chuffed with it

EatsFartsAndLeaves · 23/12/2020 10:34

I've got a Hoover washer dryer, it has a 14, 30 or 45 minute rapid cycle which I use for prewashing something that then goes in with a normal load, like rinsing something muddy for example.

It's then got a 59 minute "daily" cycle, and you can choose level 1 2 or 3 of dirtiness which changes the cotton wash between 1h59m, 2h39m and 3h something.

Knittingnanny · 23/12/2020 10:52

Mine sounds like yours. I use the 30 degree 30 min one for nearly everything, occasionally the hotter ones which say hours. In practise however they never seem to take that long .

Knittingnanny · 23/12/2020 10:54

My machine never smells after months of just the cool wash, everyone and again I run it through empty on a very hot wash with soda crystals, just the wash it and cancel the rinses and spins etc so it doesn’t take hours if you see what I mean.

HarrietPotterska · 09/01/2021 16:48

So, we got an LG! I'm a bit embarrassed by how much I love it!

I think your'll find it's a problem with newer machines. Lord knows what they 'think' we want!
My machine is ancient. Is has tonnes of options. 40 minutes for 40 degree, 51 minute cycle, a shorter 30 degrees, 60 degrees for 1 hour 5 minutes. 90 degrees for 1.5 hours. It's an old Bosch logic 8. Fab.
I dred it dying and having to buy one of the crap new ones with no short cycles.
