How fast would you spin cotton jumper?

I have a new cotton jumper, and it says to wash on a delicates wash. On my machine would mean a spin of 1200. That will obviously leave the jumper wetter than a faster spin, and the weight of the water in the jumper could stretch it while it’s hanging up. I’ve had this happen a couple of times in the past with other jumpers. I know they say dry flat, but I don’t have one of those special flat nets on my airer, so can’t dry it flat. I’m wondering whether to do a faster spin, to get more water out, or whether the faster spin would stretch the jumper. What would you do?! Thanks!! Smile

Have you got one of those over the radiator racks? If so, I would be inclined to do recommended spin, put a towel over two of the rails, then put jumper over it, so you don't get a mark from the rail, iuswim.

Or maybe three rails, to distribute the weight more?

Or gently squeeze in a towel, so less weight to pull it out of shape. Can you tell I'm getting a bit invested in the welfare of your jumper? Grin

Thank you :) I don’t have a radiator rack, but what I sometimes do is put the airer on its side, slightly open, so that I can hand an item over 3 rails that way. So I can do that, and gently squeeze in a towel - good idea! So would you avoid a faster spin (say 1400 or 1600)?

I don't spin anything other than towels on 1200, everything else I spin on 600 or 800. It does mean I have airers all over the place.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 15/12/2020 20:23

I would say avoid the faster spin, yes.

Thank you for your replies!

You're welcome. Is your jumper ok? :)

Fastnfurriest · 17/12/2020 13:27

1200 is way too fast. I wouldn't go higher than 800.

I "dry flat" laid out on the ironing board (turned over after 12hrs or so) or if pushed on the top surface of a chest of drawers. Works fine!

Do you have any of those mesh laundry bags? I spin jumpers in one of those and it won't get stretched. And just dry flat as best you can, Eg make a "bridge" with it between the 2 sides of an A frame airer or drape it over several rungs.
