Glamorizing cleaning

I want to glam up my cleaning Xmas Grin
Tell me what you do to raise the bar. For starters, I bought some good quality thin cotton gloves a couple of weeks ago. Now, whenever I clean, I slather my hands in moisturiser, shove the gloves on, and off I go, adding a pair of marigolds on top for bathrooms etc.
I light a candle/set the diffuser going in the room I'm working in to make it smell nice it gives me a luxurious feeling.
I also made my own hoover powder with bicarb of soda and some essential oils so it smells lovely when I hoover.
Tell me what you do to make cleaning (more) enjoyable!

I love the idea of putting on face mask and hair treatment to clean! Pinching that idea!

Buzzthedragon · 27/12/2020 21:55

I really hoped this would be a thread about how we’ve regressed to some sort of 1950s ideal where women are encouraged to be domestic goddesses. I just came on to agree.
Hinching and zoflora do nothing for me.

DfEisashambles · 27/12/2020 22:00

Wfh so I started doing my own cleaning recently, not sure if I’ll be able to keep it up. Good ideas here.

Running a bubble bath at the end has been an essential ritual as I feel disgusting by the end of it.

Open all windows. Clean like buggery. Spray/burn/melt/sprinkle nothing. Routinely wash: bedding, towels, sofa throws, sofa cushions. Regularly dust, once a month pull off books from bookcase move bookcase and clean right behind it (it's a 4x4 kallax stuffed with books).

No 50s pinny, no facepacks, no Kath kidston rubber gloves. Definitely cups of tea along the way.

Audreyhelp · 27/12/2020 22:07

Always carry the iPod and watch the soaps . Or phone a friend

FirsAndFairylights · 27/12/2020 22:17

Same here!

🤔 how has that got anything to do with the OP?
Making cleaning more enjoyable doesnt mean doing less washing. Although having said that, less washing is always a good idea 😂

Ok, here I am, clearing up the kitchen with a hair and face mask on. My hair is in a towel, and I've got 10 minutes to clean the kitchen before the face mask needs washing off Smile how luxurious!

After watching an insta cleaning thread I came across Fabulosa Intense spray in the shop and loved the smell so gone a bit mad on on online order ordering other scents and products in the range. Hoping this will brighten up my cleaning when it arrives

StealthRoast · 08/01/2021 04:01

Fabulosa have a huge range in B&M, I love the lemon sherbet disinfectant.

For me, setting a timer works wonders. 20/30 minutes or whatever you want, see how much you can achieve in that time.

Also, lists, lists and more lists. I have a non negotiable basics list such as laundry, dishes, clean toilet etc and then lists of jobs that need doing periodically such as windows/oven/skirting boards etc and pick one and do it, lovely to see all of the ticks!

Lastly, open the windows whatever the weather. I love smells of cleaning products I really do and use them a lot but there’a no substitute for clean, fresh air.

Love the thread idea.

GingerScallop · 08/01/2021 04:16

@Buzzthedragon, I thought that too and came here to agree. I'm enjoying it though. I like the bubble bath idea. I have some NEOM oils I haven't used in ages as I have no chance for a soak. Will give myself the excuse on some Fridays.
We have a fantastic cleaner on furloughed for this new covid variation so I must clean. As for gifts, we have this

www.amazon.co.uk/Vileda-Turbo-Microfibre-Bucket-Plastic/dp/B01HTTQ6A2/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?hvlocphy=1007012&hvnetw=g&keywords=vileda+mop+bucket&hvadid=259147307225&qid=1610078882&dchild=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA_9r_BRBZEiwAHZ_v1yrXWQRHzRS2k5a9PWTRk-uYDmh5jUyqvCEoemfAeUARXh_tMCxr4hoCorwQAvD_BwE&hydadcr=4852_1742296&hvdev=m&hvqmt=e&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&hvtargid=kwd-301249170870&adgrpid=51875235783&hvrand=12225231903343086665&sr=8-4

and our cleaner swears it's the best she's ever used. I like the spin mechanism. A gift for your sister's cleaner?!

Hi, I'm new on mumsnet and I'd like to add that I find gemma bray really good at giving you a kick start to cleaning the house. I found her ideas so great to follow. What I'd like to do is make up my own cleaning bottles so its safer. Does anyone have any ideas on this. I spray the toilet with antibacterial spray and quicky shut the door because of the fumes. I hate wearing rubber gloves so a spray that I don't have to worry about touching my skin for example would be good.

Divebar · 09/01/2021 12:48

I would enjoy using anything from Labour and Wait... in fact if I had the dough I would invest in everything from there

Harley77 · 09/01/2021 15:15

I like labour and wait, very nice items.

Play all my favourite music on Alexa. Plan a nice breakfast/brunch when I've finished.
