Samsung Ecobubble should I just get rid?

Hi everyone.

We have a samsung ecobubble 8kg/6kg washer dryer and it is just over two years old. Unfortunately my partner didn't register the 5 year warranty (that's another story - men) so it is out of guaruntee. We seem to now be experiencing a plethora of issues with it.

Last week it would not fill up or start a cycle at all. You would select the programme, press play and nothing would happen. This has rectified itself however now the door will not unlock whatsoever. We have the little addwash door and I've had a peek, I can see there is no water in the drum whatsoever so it's not that causing the problem.

I have tried:
resetting it by leaving it unplugged for 10 minutes
draining the machine
checking the filter

All to no avail! I'm wondering what is going to go wrong next!

Now, we have just purchased a standalone dryer so we just need a working washing machine. Samsung have given me the number of a local engineer but I really don't want this to turn into a massive saga or money pit.

What would you do? Should we just cut our losses and replace the machine?

IME yes. Sounds like you had the same/similar model to me and it was awful. 11 months and three repairs. Realised after we changed what a bad job it had done of both washing and drying.

No don’t replace it, get an engineer out and get a professional assessment. Better use of money and resources. We need to stop this throw away culture - it’s killing the planet.

I don't agree with throwaway culture but unfortunately due to the pandemic I don't have lots of money just to Chuck at a machine that is having random problems all the time. I forgot to mention that sometimes it leaks from under the door. I have spoken to a local engineer and he said Samsung's are not the easiest thing to fix. While I totally agree that we should make an effort not to throw things away, I can't really afford expensive repairs. I don't have any faith in this machine left.

It is so awful! I would agree it's not the best at either job. Drying especially! 4 hours 30 drying time and things are still damp and get all balled up together. It's horrid

We found the same. Definitely my worst ever purchase. I avoid ironing if necessary but everything was so creased, it ruined so many clothes by drying them too much and things didn't get properly clean.
I agree with not being wasteful but we replaced with a Miele which will hopefully last the next 20 years. Also found it much better having separate washer and dryer with two kids and the heat pump dryer is much more efficient for the amount we use. Hope you end your Samsung misery soon Smile

We’ve got two Samsung eco bubbles and I love them, these are my second and third Samsung washing machines and I would never have any other make now.

I find them very reliable and when they do go wrong its usually the control panel which is expensive to get repaired so they usually right the machine off which is what happened with my old machine and we were given a contribution towards a new machine.

TaighNamGastaOrt · 14/12/2020 18:44

Agree with @eggsandwich. Love my ecobubble so much my neighbours and friends all got one too! The 5 year warranty was a big draw, shame your dp didn't register.
Mine isn't a washer drier tho, always have separates.
Speak to an engineer and get a quote. If it's not worth repairing I think get a new one. We live in such a throw away society, but I always try to make do and mend

Get a local engineer out mine doesn’t charge a call out fee before you purchase a new machine it might be cheap to fix
I have a Samsung eco bubble washer not washer drier though and I love it

HennyLenry · 17/12/2020 22:09

I’ve replaced it.

I already had a local engineer out when it wasn’t filling and he didn’t know what was wrong and admitted Samsung’s are very difficult machines, it then started filling but the door wouldn’t lock.. I phoned Samsung who gave me the number of a local refrigeration company who specialise in Samsung appliances. They quoted £72 for just the call out. I’ve just bought a Beko for £230.

I think the combination of it being a washer dryer, my partner being a mechanic and having heavily soiled clothing, and him constantly forgetting to empty his pockets have unfortunately killed the machine. I did love the features but can’t justify buying another eco bubble when this one hasn’t lasted :(

Oh what a shame you ended up buying a new machine fingers crossed you have more luck with this one

iusedtohavechickens · 09/01/2021 17:26

Hated my Samsung, had a few repairs in the 10 year warranty which only lasted two years before they came up with oh that parts not covered in the extra warranty!! Told them to do one when they asked me to pay for an engineer to come out and look at it and brought a Miele instead, like a pp said didn't realise how crap it was at washing until I got my new machine!
