I stayed in a holiday cottage last year which had a sort of pale sky blue with cream sofas & curtains, wooden floors and wooden furniture. It was gorgeous.

nailpolish · 21/10/2007 15:12

lol. It was divine. I immediately said I wanted my bedroom those colours. We havent had chance to do it yet but we will...one day.

Jojay · 21/10/2007 19:09

No, but our bedroom and hallway are blue - I love it.

Ou bedroom is north facing so gets cool light - we picked a lilacy blue for in there - it doesn't look lilacy on the walls but it stops it feeling too cold.

Go for it!

NomDeBroomstick · 21/10/2007 19:12

Navy is supposed to be the colour for this season

lapsedrunner · 21/10/2007 19:12

No...

bonkerz · 21/10/2007 19:13

We have a sky blue colour in our lounge. Light oak flooring and have dark blue leather sofa and rug. Feels warm to me!

NomDeBroomstick · 21/10/2007 19:13

Duck egg blue tones beautifully with chocolate so I'd go for brown sofas

NomDeBroomstick · 21/10/2007 19:14

(but no, I don't have blue walls)

peskipixie · 21/10/2007 19:15

we have bright turquoisy blue and navy sofa. we do have high ceiling and huge window so it doesnt overpower the room, but its quite a warm colour so dont need to make it cosy

themoon66 · 21/10/2007 19:15

the blue that is the background of the strip where your nickname goes when you post.... that's a lovely blue I think.

Slightly lighter than wedgewood blue. Gorgeous with cream or white.

littlerach · 21/10/2007 19:15

We have a very pale blue, might be Duke blue by Dulux or Croan.
In the dining room though.
Wooden skirting etc.
Red tablecloth.
Cream carpet.
It is south facing, so never seems cold, tjoughg that was my worry.
It looks very crsip and bright.

Lauriefairycake · 21/10/2007 19:18

I have the duck egg blue wallpaper in kimono from Laura Ashley, white painted panelling up to half way. Brown (tan really) sofa and brown and blue cushions. The kimono curtains have brown and duck egg in them too.

Dark brown floorboards and two duck egg rugs.

It doesn't look remotely cold as in different lights the kimono wallpaper is grey/blue/greeny

Its beautiful, and very 'fresh'

tassisssss · 21/10/2007 19:20

i have a friend who has blue walls in her living room and I'm sure the fireplace and other paint is cream

i was VERY dubious, but it's a lovley restful room and (surprisingly IMO) not at all cold.

BroccoliSpears · 21/10/2007 19:20

We have pale blue walls with one wall in shockingly kitch wallpaper. One dark blue sofa, one cream sofa, one pink chair.

littlerach · 21/10/2007 19:22

I actually really like red with very pale blue.
But has ot be the perfect shade.

mrsmerton · 21/10/2007 19:22

Farrow and Ball Light Blue, more of a grey really. Cream and red dotted around warm it up. Its a lovely colour, got it in my bedroom too.

RustyBear · 21/10/2007 19:22

Our playroom (sorry, not allowed to call it that any more)family room is wedgewood blue with white wood, dark blue curtains. The sofa is an old one & doesn't match, so it has a dark blue throw. DS liked it so much he painted his room the same colour -it doesn't look cold at all, even though the room faces north.

gladbag · 21/10/2007 19:26

This is a great site here of comparing colours (of mainly posh paints, though).

In my old house our living room had one lovely deep chalky blue wall, then one a sort of pale warm mushroom, and the others all v pale grey (sounds awful, but was fab in a fairly large room). The sofa was pale bluey grey and the armchairs dark brown leather.

The colour's closest on that site are probably cook's blue, old white and james white.... I love choosing paint!

nailpolish · 22/10/2007 08:47

thanks everyone

i really dont like brown, so wont be going down the chocolate route

the room is south facing, so im glad a couple of you posted about that helping. i like the sound of a navy sofa. i also like turquoise. and a couple of red accessories.

thanks again!

We stayed in a holiday cottage ( in padstow of all places- ponces!) in august.

The room was a fresh white,-whitewashed floor boards, with navy sofa and rug - sky blue cushions and accesories with the odd bright red cushion/accesory. Looked amazing- something that I would never have thought of putting together.

jalopy · 22/10/2007 09:15

Blue can be lovely with shades of brown. Not necessarily a dark brown but something on that palette , perhaps a beige tone. Certain shades of blue can be very cold so needs a warm colour to compliment it.

margoandjerry · 22/10/2007 09:22

French Grey by Dulux is a lovely blue. Pale but not wishy-washy with a hint of warmth. Like the blue themoon66 mentions on the strip for nicknames.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 22/10/2007 09:22

I have Laura Ashley Duck Egg on 3 Walls and a Mink colour on the 4th.

Chocolate brown sofas and stripped floor boards (about to have walnut flooring put down though)

I have a white rocking chair, unit and side tables and I love the contrast of the white with the blue.
