Best hoover for dog hair and hard floors

Hello all, any recommendations for a good hoover for dealing with dog hair and small kid general mess? Ideally something that works on hard floors. So many reviews are on new products and in a way you want reviews from 12month +

I had a look at the vax air stretch per hoover but it gets very mixed reviews

We bought the dyson v11 pet one a few months back as our shark was barely touching the hair and we absolutely love it! Pricey but worth it!

Literallynoidea · 03/12/2020 21:08

How much running time do you get on that Dyson @Xiomara22 ?

I'm tempted but was told by a cleaner today that they run out of battery really fast so you. Can't do a whole house in one go. Is this the case?

CheshireCats · 03/12/2020 21:15

The Dyson V11 can not cope with hair from German Shepherds on carpet. On the middle power setting it will get round a fairly small house, but doesn't have enough suction to pick up the hair. On the high setting, it is better on the hair (but not brilliant) but will definitely not get round anything other than perhaps a small flat.

Thanks @CheshireCats that's really helpful. Think I might get a Henry instead, much as I hate the design!

CheshireCats · 03/12/2020 21:44

@Literallynoidea No problem. I am a cleaner and am somewhat obsessed with finding the holy grail of vacuums! I so want a stick vacuum but nothing that I have used is fantastic.

Xiomara22 · 03/12/2020 22:16

@Literallynoidea that’s very true on the medium power setting I can do about 2-3 rooms, wouldn’t be able to do the whole house, not sure if on eco mode id be able too as I don’t tend to use it. I only tend to clean one-two rooms a day on my schedule so it works for us Smile

With pet hairs, give the floors a quick sweep with a rubber broom first. Saves you from filling up tha vac. cleaner with hair.

1sttimeonhere · 04/12/2020 11:05

@MikeUniformMike I have never thought of a rubber broom, good tip

Re the cordless, I was always put off because I know a guy who mends the Miele one and he said to me they are not designed to be a house hoover. They are an extra hoover, unless you only want to hoover one/ two room at a time. It sounds like people in here agree with that opinion? Maybe dyson is much better than Miele

@Veterinari how long have you had that hoover? It is such good value

I have a sebo which is great at clearing all the dog hair from carpets. Don't know how it is on hard floors but the head is motorised and adjustable. I love it.

I bought this Shark one earlier in the year after around 20 years of using various Dysons. We have a black dog and a cream carpet and it does an amazing job and I’d never go back to Dyson. The Liftaway function makes it easy to use on stairs and upholstery, and it has a brilliant little motorised brush attachment for those. You can also very easily adjust the main brush head three ways to use on either thick carpet/rugs, flatter carpet or hard floors.

My one is from Wilko, and I use it on carpets to dislodge long human hair and pet hairs, because it means I don't have to empty the vacuum cleaner as often.

Shark Lift Away is AMAZING on carpet and hard floors. I've got 3 Dysons and they cannot touch the Shark! I've also got a Gtech MK2, very light, cordless, 40 minutes run time
