Best hire carpet cleaner?

puttergal · 30/11/2020 07:57

My carpets are grim - I really need to get them cleaned.
Normally I would get someone in, but because of COVID I think I should just hire one (plus there's 3 of us WHF in a tiny house!)
Anyone recommend or not recommend a particular place to hire a cleaner from - or are they much the same?
Any other tips? I'm not the most practical person, but hopefully they are straightforward to use!

We always found Rug Doctor very good - book online and collect from (in our case) Tesco. Not sure what's happening at the moment re: Covid, but it currently all looks available at our Tesco.

Very easy to use. Be prepared to be faintly disgusted by the colour of the water Grin.

I’ve hired one from HSS Hire and a rug doctor and found the HSS one better, more manoeuvrable and easier to get into corners. But if you don’t have an HSS Hire shop near you, rug doctor is perfectly good

Thanks guys, is it best to use their carpet cleaning solution?
How long does the carpet take to dry (seeing as we're all at home and I have lots
of pets!)

I’ve always just bought my own solution - usually get a Vax one as available in supermarkets, B&M etc.

I can’t remember it taking long to dry as the machine sucks most of the moisture out

Have fun, it is so satisfying seeing the clean carpet!

I use rugdoctor as it's the only one we have at the DIY store for hire and it's fine. I use liquid clothes detergent.

If you put a bench with a shoe rack by the door people will take their shoes off when they come in.

I do it in summer so I can open all the windows for drying but it doesn't actually leave the carpet that wet.

We don't allow shoes in the house. I put a bench by the front door with a shoe rack so it's pretty clear to anyone who comes that it's shoes off.

We've hired from HSS and used solution from Screwfix which was dirt cheap, but I'm fairly sure MN says persil liquid works just as good.
