Advice on fixing peeling sofa. Who fixes that?

I have a really ugly cream leather sofa in my apartment that is falling to pieces. The landlord won't remove it so I can buy my own.

The leather is peeling badly. So there are patches of grey all over it (that's what's under the layer of leather) and it actually had deep rips in it too. It was like this when I moved in, but I didn't see in the viewing as it was covered by blankets etc. I'm wondering how I can get it looking decent without spending a fortune since it doesn't belong to me. If I pay someone to fix it/paint it, how much does that cost? Can I just buy leather paint and go over it?

You can buy kits but never tried it myself. There’s YouTube videos. I bought a kit off Amazon I think and was considering doing it and then realised it was under guarantee so got it fixed by them. No idea how much it would have cost. It’s happened again and no longer under guarantee so I’m considering giving it a go.

I thought you wanted them to get rid of it because it was separating when you sat on it?
I wouldn’t paint it, they could easily say you made it worse and try to keep some deposit when you leave. Did you take photos when you moved in? Have the landlord actually responded to you? Could you not just get a cheap throw to put over it?

Yeah, it's still separating and no the landlord hasn't responded about it. Honestly, it's so bad that's why I thought of paying out of my own pocket to fix it. I did take a picture when I moved in, but you're right about them being able to say I made it worse. Guess I'll look into throws..

You can buy relatively cheap stretchy covers, around £30.

I got some for our dinning chairs where the top layer is peeling off. They are quite thin lycra type fabric, really stretchy so fit quite a range of shapes. I didn't have much hope of them lasting long, but we've had them for a year now and they still look fine.

Think ours were from Amazon.

@LunchWithAGruffalo That's a god idea. The throws do fall down multiple times a day. Thanks!
