Capsule cleaning supplies

I am trying to reduce the amount of cleaning supplies I use. I am starting to think it's a massive con that we think we need so many. So I am wondering what are your essential products? Has anyone managed to cut them way down?

Washing up liquid. That's it.

It's soap.

It's soap.

Plus e cloths - best for mirrors and windows with just water.

Sprays of any kind are not good for your lungs.

I've been using soda crystals to scrub things - sprinkle then scrub with a damp cloth or sponge.

Vinegar on kitchen roll to remove limescale as I'm in a hard water area - leave for a few hours or over night then rinse and scrub.

What do you all use to clean greasy areas like ovens and hobs?

I use the spray elbow grease and hot soapy water for most stuff. Old flannels for buffing tiles work well too

Watching with interest I seem to have too many as well.

I do think a lot can be done with washing up liquid as someone said upthread but a couple more things may be required (for grease or mould for example). But I like the idea of products which do many different jobs so I could have say 3-4 total. I am trying to not use too many chemicals as well so there's that.

we use washing up liquid...Fairy, and some pink paste in a tub from poundland and that seems to do everything....sometimes i mix up flash in a water spray bottle and dilute it....oven etc just needs an extra scrub....the shop shelves are jammed with cleaning stuff...i am sure its nearly all just water with a few chemicals added....oh and soap powder is a good one for burnt dishes etc !

Your right cif have started doing refills which are a tiny concentrate that you dilute in the spray bottle.

I have a ceramic hob so I use a couple of blobs of hob brite most nights and rub with a sheet of kitchen roll. Then clean the residue with damp kitchen roll.

I have a microwave cleaner called angry mama that you put water inside then microwave to steam it up and wipe. It says Vinegar and water but I don't like the smell of microwaved Vinegar.

I'm a cleaner.

Spontex window cloths and water for glass/steel.
Large multi purpose - refill spray bottle with 3 caps then top up with water for surfaces and floors.
Damp dust cloth instead of polish.
Pink stuff/Astonish paste for grimey stuff.
Fair liquid.

This is a bit like when we talk about shoes. I think I don't have many but actually I do. My main cleaner is a squidge of washing up liquid and a bit of disinfectant topped up with water to about a quarter of a spray bottle. So that sounds fairly minimal. However I also use cream cleanser occasionally for a really good scrub, glass cleaner often, Viakal for showers and taps, bleach for drains, washing soda crystals for drains and cleaning the washing machine, and very rarely I'll buy Oven Pride to do the oven. Oh and toilet cleaner. Struggling to see what I could stop buying except for the bleach. Apart from my regular made-up cleaner though, they do last a long time.

Woeismethischristmas · 25/11/2020 08:48

I use a lot of vinegar. I've got a spray bottle with vinegar and water that I use for cleaning bathroom and kitchen. Big tub of bicarb that does stain removal and laundry. Thin bleach for toilets. Ecloths for dusting. karcher for windows.

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 25/11/2020 22:22

Windows definitely clean well with 2 microfibre cloths. One with soapy water to clean (washing up liquid) and a dry one to polish it off.

Sammie2510 · 14/09/2021 22:56

This is literally what I have been discussing....with myself! I kinda jumped on the hinch wagon last year. I went and brought all these cloths and sprays 😱 I've realised now than I mainly need washing up liquid, just plain cloths (cheap ones) microfibre cloths, cif and bleach for bathroom and kitchen anti bac spray (plus oven cleaner) and some white vinegar!
