The cat pissed on the bed...again

I thought we were over this but apparently he decided this morning he couldn't wait to go out to the garden to wee (he's offended by litter trays) and jumped on the bed, next thing you know I've been sprayed in the face with cat wee.

Unfortunately it soaked right through the duvet and onto the mattress. I've liberally sprayed the mattress to the point that its soaked with Simple Solution EXTREEEEMMME (sorry, its just how it sounds in my head) and placed a towel on top and then the bedsheet over that. It's an expensive mattress and I really would prefer for it not to stink of cat wee. I haven't got a mattress protector as its about 40cms thick so I don't think I'd ever fit a sheet on as well, but I'm going to look into it anyway.

The duvet is the thing that is annoying me the most, it's a Baavet duvet that cost me about £150 9 years ago and has been through me having a baby, divorce etc. It is absolutely soaked through. This happened at 6am so the first thing I did was run the bath and the duvet is soaking in there with some Simple Solution but I have no idea how I'm going to get the cat wee out. I don't want to spend £150 on a new duvet. I know there are alternatives out there but I love it, it keeps me cool in the summer, warm in the winter and it's heavy so helps my anxiety.

How do I fix the duvet?

Could you take it to a dry cleaners? Is it a wool one? I took my old wool one to dry cleaners and they shrunk it!! You could try dry cleaners but may have to ask them first to avoid shrinking it.

Yeah it is a wool one and its fully wool, not blended so I daren't take it to the dry cleaners. The lady from Baavet said to soak it in wool detergent and then rinse and repeat but I haven't a clue how I'm going to dry it

Don't let cat in your bedroom. Soak duvet in your bath with wool hand wash. Hang over clothes line to drip dry. Just keep your bedroom door shut and get cat a basket and put in lounge near to radiator. Leave door open into kitchen so cat can go in and out of cat flap.

If male cat is not neutered they spray. If neutered very rarely. If not neutered get him done.

There is nothing worse. For that reason my cats don’t go on the beds all doors upstairs are kept closed.

Dunelm sell nice mattress covers - my son wets the bed & we use covers on all the beds and he has a duvet protector as he often lies on top of the flipping thing so has 2 duvet covers on so it’s softer but at least duvet never gets wet.

Locally to me we have those huge outdoor laundrettes but obs you can’t wash it as it’s wool and don’t think they have just a spin cycle, do you have a back up duvet?...it’s not guaranteed it’ll mot smell even by time you’ve washed it and dried it but fingers crossed nothing worse than cat pee smell.
Good luck 🤞

Ours did this when she was pissed off 😂 with us. We gave her more attention and she never did it again. (Not saying you don’t give yours attention!! That was just our experience!)
