Robot hoovers

Does anyone know about robot hoovers? I don’t want something that needs a lot of computer attention if you see what I mean.

It’s also a small flat so it would bump into things a lot - nothing that can be damaged but I heard they map their route by the ceiling and get confused by floors with a lot of stuff. I’m packed into a small one bed with folding tables and chairs and a lot of storage units.

Thanks.

We've got a Eufy (called Suki). She vacuums in a random pattern, turning when she "senses" something in front of her. The only thing she can't "see" is our shiny black hearth so she does bump into that. You'll need to move wire / cables out of the way.

JamMakingWannaBe · 17/11/2020 22:41

The Eufy is controlled by a remote control so we switch that on to start her up / send her home but it can also be used to direct her to a particular spot or to instruct her to do skirting boards etc. You can program it to start/stop but we don't bother.

I got the cheapest Eufy. It is so straight forward and it just works very well. My house is sparkling for almost no effort. It never moans. just cracks on. cleaning, cleaning. I am a total convert.

Thanks everyone
So it dies the need to be connected to anything? If that’s the case, I think I’ll get one.

Doesn’t need

Blooming auto correct- a great example of why tech still weirds me out! 😂

You link it up to your wifi and you can use your phone to start and stop it and direct it if you want, otherwise you can just set it off to clean for you. Mine took very little time to set up when I bought it (also an Eufy, mine's called Rover) and is programmed to hoover every Morning at 7am. But you can just tell it to hoover when you want. It cleans in a random pattern just tootling all over the place but makes a huge difference to my floors even though I have 2 cats and a dog. It takes itself home to recharge when it needs it. You will need to empty it each day but it takes 2 seconds. Best thing I've ever bought.

IdblowJonSnow · 18/11/2020 00:13

Does it have a setting for wooden floors? How would it cope with toys?
Thanks.

Hi Op.
I did quite a bit of reading up/watching YT videos about robot vacs and opted for a roborock and like the other pp, I wouldn't be without it.
I bought the s5 model as it has a mop function which is handy and it's operated by a phone app.

I did a little experiment by using my Henry hoover first and then running the roborock and was surprised by how much extra was collected.
Treat yourself

Ooh good question OP! I want to get one for my gran, she's been mithering about anyone going in to clean (fair enough currently) so a robot might help. Do they work without internet, and how heavy are they?

BertieBotts · 18/11/2020 00:37

We have an irobot roomba one, just a cheap model so not WiFi or app enabled or programmable or anything. It has an automatic charging dock that it can sometimes find by itself. But you have to turn it on with the button.

It's great! You don't need a fancy version unless you want those features.

BertieBotts · 18/11/2020 00:42

We have wooden floors. We usually tidy up the toys first, but it can handle small light things, it just pushes them around. Anything like cables, toys with string, clothes left on the floor can get caught up in it which causes a problem.

The DC actually find it fun to watch though so it's somewhat of a novelty for them to tidy up "for the hoover".

Tiny things like hama beads would get sucked up.

Yes, that’s what I’m after, no fancy stuff needed.

Is it the MN thing to give it a name? I thought maybe it was needed for WiFi control but that’s exactly the stuff I don’t want!

Ooh I'd really like a robot hoover. And a robot mop. And a robot window cleaner. Alas...

AcornAutumn · 18/11/2020 10:08

Robot mop would be grand.

I got the entry level EUfy. Doesn't need WiFi or work from a phone etc. There is a remote control so you can do timed starts or tell it to hoover the edges rather than all over. That went in the drawer tbh. We just use on /off on the actual machine. It has a charging station which it returns to at the end of its session ( if it is in the same room of course). You'll need to move the odd cable and pick up toys but you'd need to if you were hoovering anyway.
It is solidly built and very simple. And I BLOODY LOVE IT.
You will not regret it.

I have a roomba. It’s best to make sure there’s no tiny toys or bits of paper on the floor, but I’m very happy with it. It copes well with bumping/going around objects etc. It does really well with staying on top of day to day debris!

AcornAutumn · 22/11/2020 13:31

Now I know there’s a mop and hoover version. there are no other contenders!
