CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 17/10/2007 20:55

Had new bathroom fitted and the knob that opens the bath plug has always been a bit stiff but now it wont budge and bloody bath wont drain

Any ideas? Bath is tiled in so removing bath not an option.....

Will get dh on job tomorrow with a plunger.I think I overfilled bath tonight as I was on phone to friend getting update on other news (see seperate thread) and it was almost full

Maybe the pressure did it but I have half emptied it with a cup and no change

Can't you just prise the plug up with a knife or something?

They should come out, as my boys are always pulling my pop up plug out of the drain and it drives me nuts.

Like was wondering said, try and break the vacuum, its the pressure keeping it stuck.

We're all holding our breath!!

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 17/10/2007 21:12

I cant get anything under it as its so shut tight.

I dont know if we have a plunger and dh at work.....

bloody mod cons

Is there an overflow hole? What if you put your hand over that, and 'pumped', like a plunger, might that release something, or break a seal??

Where's a blinkin physisist when you need one? Or praps a plumber, thinking about it....

Elasticbandstand · 17/10/2007 21:19

have you got a plunger to pull it out

Elasticbandstand · 17/10/2007 21:20

southeastastra · 18/10/2007 20:28

squirt the knob with wd40 (if it's still full )

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 18/10/2007 20:51

Its ok having been plunged!!!

Friend has same system and got some advice to fix it

thank god.though i would have to take the whole thing out and with 6 weeks to go for new baby and a kitchen extension half done,I would not have coped v well!!

Phew, we can breathe again now! Glad its sorted, sounds like you've got plenty on your plate at the moment.

Buy a 99p washing up brush with a suction cup on the end and keep it in the bathroom. I needed to seach the internet as I have just had the same problem and this thread gave me that idea. It worked perfectly.

Tjclark90 · 26/11/2017 13:46

This is such an unexpectedly emotional problem! I spent hours trying to fix this last night with screwdrivers and other tools last night.

You need to create suction to lift out this plug. I tried suction cups but none would fit correctly and work. Eventually I bought som velcro ‘heavy duty stick on’ - sticky on one side - and used that to pull out the plug as if it were a chain. That worked easily and saved me drillin a hole into the plug (which since metal I was a bit nervous about).

NigelOfKent · 22/12/2020 11:42

Just to add my two pennyworth, the plunger worked a treat for me. Two pumps and the plug came out after everything else had failed.

SillyMoomin · 24/12/2020 07:09

But as this was 13 years ago @NigelOfKent, I’m sure the op has sorted it Grin
