Washing machine with cycles of around 1 hr - 1 hr 30 mins?

Washing machine died today Sad and looking to replace it, but I'm horrified at the length of wash cycles on so many machines.

My old machine is a Samsung and the basic wash is 1 hr 2 mins. The colours wash is 1 hr 15 mins. So many machines I'm looking at though have washes taking over 2 or even 3 hours!

Can anyone recommend a machine with similarly short cycles?

My Samsung AddWash WW90K5410WW/EU Washing Machine, 9kg Load has a daily wash of 1 hour 5 mins, plus a 15 min quick wash (which is a bit shit because it's only 800 spin cycle) Eco or normal mode is theoretically 3.20 but it usually goes down to 2 hours something when it weighs it. And it sings the song of its people when it's finished.

Slower is more economical.

zafferana · 12/11/2020 17:47

I don't care about economy, I care about speed! But thanks @FannysSteadiedBuffs - looks like I need another Samsung.

I know what you mean about the song too - it drove me a bit crazy to start with, but after six years I'm used to it now Grin

Mine's a bosch. The cotton cycle is 2h 30 but that come down to around an hour if you press the time saving button. You can do that on most of its cycles.

zafferana · 12/11/2020 18:24

Ah interesting @Harmarsuperstar. What model do you have?

Motnight · 12/11/2020 18:28

I wouldn't buy a Bosch washing machine. We are on our 4th in 2 and a half years. Bought one, it has been replaced by Bosch 3 times as it has broken. Never again.

isthismylifenow · 12/11/2020 18:29

I have a Miele and use the 30 min wash most of the time.

My old Miele died so I bought a Samsung but I sold it on as the shortest wash was nearly 2 hours. The 15 min one is crap. I got another Miele and now happily do all my washing in a morning.

Harmarsuperstar · 12/11/2020 18:29

It says varioperfect serie 4 on the front. I don't know the model number I don't think. It's nearly 3 years old now. It has a button saying speed/eco which makes programmes quicker Smile

SkinnyDragon · 12/11/2020 18:34

Miele. 20 mins, 30 mins, 1 hour, 1 hr 40 all the way up to 3 hours if you like - I use mainly the 30 mins wash or the 1 hour wash for cottons.

userxx · 13/11/2020 08:14

Beko, daily washes are about 30 -40 mins.

EggysMom · 13/11/2020 08:17

My Indesit - bought seven years ago and still going strong - has cycles that range from 50 minutes to 2 and half hours. I generally use cycle 3, which is 1hr 25.

zafferana · 14/11/2020 13:14

New washing machine arrived this morning. We went with a Bosch Serie 6, which has a 'Speed Perfect' button that can be used to shorten the longer cycles. I'm just doing a shirt wash, which is 1 hr 8 mins. The colour wash is a similar time. Thanks for all of your input!

Aeg 8000. It takes nearly 3grs on long eco cottons, but just big standard eco or time saving function brings it down to 50-60mins

Harmarsuperstar · 14/11/2020 16:33

Hope you like the bosch zafferana I love mine Smile

alexdgr8 · 14/11/2020 16:33

i wonder if all these long washes wear out the clothes more quickly, unless washing really grimey overalls, doesn't it damage shirts say to be in water so long and thrashed about and spun.

AlwaysLatte · 14/11/2020 16:35

Our Samsung eco bubble has a 1 hour 3 min wash which is our usual one. It also has a 15 min wash, although I only use that if we need an item in an emergency.

Vickyb17uk · 30/11/2020 14:06

Interested in this topic. The machine supplied by my landlord died last week and has just been 'replaced' with what I feel is a rediculous beko machine. There's one quick wash programme at 30 degrees takees 30 mins. Anything over 40 degrees takes 3 hours and up. I used to do tht towels on a 90 on other machine which took 2 hours which I thought was bad enough. To do same on this machine is going to take just short of 4 hours.???

zafferana · 01/12/2020 17:03

From the copious amount of research that DH and I did when our old machine died @Vickyb17uk, it seems that in the past few years washing machine manufacturers have been told they have to create more 'eco-friendly' machines. This is fine in principal, but what it means in practice is much longer cycles and slower spin speeds, which is exactly what consumers don't want!

Plus, it's all very well having a washing machine that can tick the 'eco' box with it's slow spin, but how are people going to get those much wetter clothes dry? In a tumble drier, which uses shed-loads of energy, so it's all a load of nonsense IMO. Beko machines are cheap, which is probably why your LL had replaced your old machine with one. My sympathies to you.

I've got one of the Beko machines that does 8kg in 30 mins. I urgently needed a new machine but was very skint so went for the cheapest option possible!

I think everything comes out great, just as clean as they did with the 2.5 hr setting on my old Bosch machine. The spin is 1200rpm but washing feels drier at the end than it did with the 1600rpm spin on the old machine. I just do a separate load of towels etc that absolutely needs a hotter wash as the quick was is only at 30°. I'm not convinced everything else does need a hotter or longer wash after using the Beko daily quick wash for a few months now. Clothes smell nice, look clean and stains have come out fine? Saved a fortune on electric too. But I do worry it will burst into flames more than I would with a Miele or Bosch machine, so there's that...

Roomba · 01/12/2020 17:21

I totally agree with you btw, OP. I understand manufacturer's are aiming to tick the eco friendly boxes (by lowering the 'energy used per hour' and extending the total wash time and hence energy used in total). But it would be nice to have the option of less eco friendly cycles on those machines too! I'm a grown up, I can make a decision which balances speed/energy use/eco considerations and twiddle the dials accordingly. I don't need manufacturers leaving me unable to make the choice at all!

My mother tries to game the system by doing a quick wash but adding a kettle of hot water into the drawer while the machine is filling, so she gets both a quick and a hot wash. I can't imagine that is recommended by manufacturers or repair people though Grin Then again, her machine has lasted ten years thus far...

Nat6999 · 01/12/2020 20:26

Bosch, mine has a quick cycle of 15 minutes & a button so I can shorten a 60⁰ cycle to an hour, a 90⁰ cycle to 1hour 30.

incenseandpeppermints · 02/12/2020 06:55

I have this Hotpoint, the default mixed load takes 2 hours but if you press the rapid cycle button it takes an hour. It also has a full load 45 min cycle (it's a 10 kg load, 1400 spin, which is great) and you can add an extra rinse which also takes it up to 1 hour.
Has a 30 min cycle, with fast option it is 15 mins. Has all the long cycles too, cotton etc, variable temperature, spin etc.
My last machine was Hotpoint too, lasted 6 years, on more than 10 times weekly, only repair was a new belt drive after 5.5 years.

We have had just got a second Bosch after the very well used previous one broke after 10+ years of daily use. I think they’re great. Has option of super quick 15min cycle or normal 1 hour speed wash.

murbblurb · 04/12/2020 17:12

Indesit mytime 6kg, washes take an hour. Really crap art student design so it dances across the floor unless wedged in with a piece of wood - make sure you buy something with a square footprint, not a rectangle.

machines are designed not to be repairable now, so spend as little as possible.

Chasingsquirrels · 04/12/2020 17:16

Just be aware that the speed perfect button on the Bosch reduces the time, but also reduces the capacity. So an 8kg normal cycle should be reduced to 4kg on speed perfect. You can scroll through the settings on mine, but it's not immediately obvious from just pushing the button.
