Booklice in new build

Emmyyyx · 11/11/2020 21:11

We moved into a new build January 20 and over the last week found booklice all in the main bathroom and then my sons room which is the room next to it!

Went on a hunt around the house and found multiple in all rooms - I’m killing loads every day, hoovering all the time, bleached all skirting and bathrooms!

It’s making me ill as I’m constantly on the hunt for them and constantly crying about it (I am pregnant so hormones won’t be helping)

Bought 2 plug in dehumidifiers and hygrometers and loads of disposable dehumidifiers and whacked the heating up the last 3 days but it’s not something I can do constantly!

I know they are harmless but it’s the fact they breed so quickly I feel if I’m not constantly on the go getting rid of them then my house will be over run.

Anyone had these in a new build and managed to get rid of them??? My partner tells me when the house dries out they will go but I can’t cope with another year of this!!

Thankyou for the advice will try that
i really need to calm down as my anxiety is increasing again

Afitap · 18/03/2024 17:46

I understand you very well, I am also on a thin border. If they decrease, you will relax a little. How did the temperature increase so quickly in your country? and lice started to appear

Asheee · 18/03/2024 19:14

It’s about 15 C today in uk
and double figures has made them
come out more I agree if they were reduced in Numbers I would be ok
I’m afraid for summer 🙈

Afitap · 18/03/2024 20:46

It doesn't seem normal for them to appear so quickly at 15 degrees. We see temperatures between 41 and 42 degrees. I hope they won't hit the ceiling then. I read that they can tolerate up to 35 degrees. Keep spraying and sweeping frequently, it will take a while but hopefully they will decrease.

I’ve had them in winter here too at lower temperature just reduced numbers
quite a few ppl have on the post on mumsnet in nov dec in uk when it’s winter so
spring is here now temp is higher so perhaps that’s why I’m not sure
Can anyone shed any light ??

Asheee · 18/03/2024 21:37

They originally appeared in august 23 when we moved into renovated home when it was summer
been struggling them through autumn winter since
not shot of them

Lvky · 19/03/2024 05:24

same.. seeing them winter. Canada is around 1-14c now and i am seeing more too. The cold doesn't seem like doing anything to them other than keep them hiding more deep.

Asheee · 19/03/2024 08:00

We’re obviously in same position with renovated properties booklice and similar climates

Hello, can you drop a few drops of lavender oil into your water bucket, apply it to the walls, and apply it to the inside of the cabinets, and then write the result here? I think this is an effective natural solution, at least you don't need to constantly spray it.

Asheee · 20/03/2024 16:53

I have tried neat tea tree oil and didn’t work on skirting boards to deter them
much
i can try lavender

Hello everyone !

I have dealt with this problem last year (I wrote a message on this thread a year ago). I went on vacation for a month this summer and I was afraid to find them everywhere in my apartement when I returned home. Well I found some but not much !

Since this summer I only find two, the last one was on Christmas's eve. I have stopped searching for them with a lamp....

My apartement is six years old and it is not humid... I used a lot of products : diatome earth, spray from the supermarket... I don't know what was efficient...

I pray they won't come back, it was a real nightmare.

Hey I live in France.
I sprinkled diatome earth on skirting boards. I used bottle of spray bought from the supermarket, I put tea tree oil... I tried a lot of products, so I don't know what worked.

bubulle · 30/03/2024 12:44

Arf I just saw one in the toilets :-( I hope it's only one. I read that it was normal to see one from time to time in every household.

Afitap · 30/03/2024 19:48

Unfortunately, this is the kind of creature that can be found when searching. Now I want to stop looking for them with a flashlight, I have reduced looking, but I get triggered when I see them. I have accepted that I will never be able to get rid of them because even though I spray pesticides every week, I continue to see their dead ones. I'm sure they won't end. Now I can understand people better.
