Booklice in new build

Emmyyyx · 11/11/2020 21:11

We moved into a new build January 20 and over the last week found booklice all in the main bathroom and then my sons room which is the room next to it!

Went on a hunt around the house and found multiple in all rooms - I’m killing loads every day, hoovering all the time, bleached all skirting and bathrooms!

It’s making me ill as I’m constantly on the hunt for them and constantly crying about it (I am pregnant so hormones won’t be helping)

Bought 2 plug in dehumidifiers and hygrometers and loads of disposable dehumidifiers and whacked the heating up the last 3 days but it’s not something I can do constantly!

I know they are harmless but it’s the fact they breed so quickly I feel if I’m not constantly on the go getting rid of them then my house will be over run.

Anyone had these in a new build and managed to get rid of them??? My partner tells me when the house dries out they will go but I can’t cope with another year of this!!

nightmare 🥹🥹

You can also spray the feet of these objects while spraying, it will not cause any harm.

Move all your furniture, cabinets, and beds away from the walls and use them. After vacuuming your bed thoroughly, you can stick tape on the bed legs.

I’ve been dealing with these bugs for almost 4 years now. I’ve moved into 3 different new build apartments during that time and within weeks they have returned in each apartment. I did pest control the whole unit before moving in and it didn’t work.

In saying that, when viewing apartments to choose for rent, I saw at least 10 or do different complexes with these bugs. Also, they have been present in neighbors apartments in all complexes but I feel they either don’t see them or don’t care.

I’m devastated as I’ll never be able to decorate the house. It’s really taken over my life and happiness and I constantly have a severe panic attack everytime I see one. It’s gotten to the stage where people think I’m crazy. I need to see a psychologist.

Yea... the insecticide is working but still cant fully eliminate them. I even went up to the attic to check the humidity. Is btw 33-35.... really dunno whats the problem...

I’m in Australia. It’s so scary, I just moved 2 months ago and haven’t even fully unpacked yet and I already want to move again. I have lost thousands of dollars in stuff and in moving costs, etc. I thought it was just an Australia problem but omg can’t believe there’s some in Canada. Do you have them in your current property? And how long have you been living with them?

These things are so scary! Were they already in your new place before you moved in or they moved with you? I had them since last Oct and they were everywhere already when I noticed them. I immediately contact pest control to spray the whole house but i still have them now. I understand how you feel... i am not slping and eating well ever since i found them 😭 I search them in the internet every day and night whenever I have time ... trying to find a way to eliminate them all even tho I know every articles and posts I read will say the same: "keep your house dry! They will eventually go away"

Afitap · 08/03/2024 12:47

Can't we live like people who don't see these creatures? It is clear that the struggle ended in failure. Other people don't bother with these, but they don't have any problems either. Maybe it is everywhere, but it is more present and visible in new homes. We shouldn't let them take over our lives because they are very happy with their lives... maybe one day it will fade away or we will get used to ignoring them like other people.

Afitap · 08/03/2024 14:18

By the way, moving from a newly built house to a newly built house is definitely not a solution. If you are going to move, move to a house that is at least 10 years old and continue to spray once a week while moving. Their numbers will decrease very much, but they will not disappear completely, those in the eggs will continue to hatch, those that hatch will turn into eggs again. This is an unchangeable cycle... But I must also say that although their numbers increase in the summer, most of them die or disappear in the cold weather of winter. This is a balance that keeps the population under control. Maybe that's why most people can ignore them and continue their lives. Don't look for them by examining everywhere with a flashlight, check the humidity, kill those you see and take your life from them to happy days....

i wish i can live this way. My most fear is that I will bring them to other houses /to my parents' . Its very stressful, especially knowing they can be in every single items in the house

Find activities that will get these thoughts out of your mind, you will get used to them over time, rest assured that there are millions of people who live with them and are not aware of them, just spray them from time to time to put your mind at ease. Don't think of worst-case scenarios or your life will turn into a nightmare.

I agree I feel I’ve become consumed by this
how often would you suggest to spray with the cypermethrin spray? Iv been finding them dead with it

Afitap · 09/03/2024 13:22

If it is seen frequently, it can be done once a month or every 2 months in winter. The important thing is to apply the pesticide at the beginning of the summer months. Since the temperature and humidity conditions are not suitable in winter, there will be no increase in their numbers and, as you know, egg laying will not occur. It would be best to spray at the beginning of summer. Don't waste your time and harm your health in winter. Calm yourself down by thinking about the people who never spray. Their numbers are under control due to the season. Use your medications alternately; To prevent the development of resistance, you must have at least 2 different active ingredients on hand. Over time, as you get used to it and see that their numbers are under control, you will reduce the spraying. Be patient, everything will be fine.

Asheee · 09/03/2024 14:19

Thankyou seen two alive ones a week after spraying with the cypermethrin spray lasted a bout a week 👎
il spray in a few weeks again or beginning of summer
I don’t know what else to do anymore
I thought it’d give me a month or so of no spraying
When do they lay eggs?

Afitap · 09/03/2024 14:32

Unfortunately, its duration of effect on small pests is very short. While some are effective for 6 months, they do not work even for 1 week on small pests. Start spraying in the spring, when the weather warms up completely, you can determine the spraying time according to the situation. When the temperature starts to reach 30 degrees and there is humidity, they start laying eggs. My advice to you is to stop spraying and checking, after a while you will reduce the spraying because it will not catch your eyes.

Asheee · 09/03/2024 15:06

I am gutted as it stated the effects lasts for 12
weeks on bottle
I am afraid if I don’t check for them then theyll keep multiplying and il be over run by them
in the uk the temp rarely gets that high
but I will attempt to spray in spring in about 4 weeks or so

Afitap · 09/03/2024 15:22

Don't think about worst-case scenarios and let them ruin your life. Keep in mind that most people have these. They rarely reach infestation size inside the house; generally, basements, food warehouses and libraries are suitable areas for infestation. Just because you have them doesn't mean you will be invaded, please think of good thoughts.

Thanks, I am working on it. Trying not to look for them everyday. I will try to look for another pest control to see if it's possible to do an in wall treatment. I heard it's expensive but it works for 15 years.

Afitap · 12/03/2024 17:24

I think you should research how to dry the wall fastest rather than pest control. I know some people increase the heating to 120 and it is effective. Even though my house is dry, they came with the belongings from my old house, there are only a few of them, I hope they will be finished by summer, otherwise I will ignore them from now on.
