Who gives a crap loo roll?

Has anyone tried it? Great idea in principle but £40 for 48 rolls, is it any good and are the environmental benefits actually real? Thanks

I tried it a couple of years ago so may have changed by now. I was drawn in my the packaging but it was horrid scratchy stuff and flown in from China so not so great for the planet from an emissions POV!

yawnyawn4 · 11/11/2020 20:35

I looked at it but the pics look quite scratchy to me. I now buy cushelle in the paper packaging - annoying as it rips easily but no plastic.

Nosenseofhumour · 11/11/2020 20:37

Yeah I wondered about the airmiles. 🧐

I've got some at the moment. It's not awful but it's not the best quality. I like that there's no plastic involved though. Big plus for us!

TheSandman · 11/11/2020 20:42

It has changed - or at least the box we're working my way through at the moment is good soft and does the job. (Or the jobbies.) Doesn't say where its from on the packet. No plastic in the wrapping - each roll is wrapped in a paper outer wrapper A small amount of parcel tape on the box it came in - so from a consumer end-user (fnarrrr!) point of view not a lot of plastic waste.

LolalovesLondon · 11/11/2020 20:42

Great big marketing con.

Cheap loo roll wrapped up in pretty paper flown in from China.

Isawthathaggis · 11/11/2020 20:43

I was given some for my birthday Grin
I love it. I guess it all depends on what paper you usually use? Compared to the stuff I usually buy it’s great.

I also love that in a small way I might be helping someone else.
I like the lack of plastic and the kids like the paper it’s wrapped in so it’s used for crafting.

LolalovesLondon · 11/11/2020 20:45

Correction- it gets here on a ship.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/11/2020 20:45

We’re on our second box. I like that it’s ethical. I think the quality is fine.

RevealTheHiddenBeach · 11/11/2020 20:46

I don't like the recycled one but the bamboo one is good. The recycled one tended to disintegrate at crucial moments...

LimaFoxtrotCharlie · 11/11/2020 20:50

Bumboo is disappointing too. I cancelled my subscription straight away and emailed to tell them that in no way could they describe it as a luxury product.
The sheets were much smaller than a standard roll. It was not soft but slightly scratchy. The sheets were very thin.
The only good thing was that the rolls looked nice individually wrapped in paper, but as I keep spare loo roll in a cupboard it was of no benefit whatsoever.

bananamonkey · 11/11/2020 20:50

Am giving Bumboo a go instead, same price but rolls are meant to be longer than supermarket ones and I like the bamboo. You can choose either wrapped or unwrapped (cheaper).

gotellitonthemountain · 11/11/2020 20:53

We have had it for a few years. Really good toilet paper, good price, beautiful paper wrapping. Explanation of ethical principles below:

Allmyfavouritepeople · 11/11/2020 20:54

If you like luxury double quilted loo roll then it's not for you.

We get it and in all honesty it's not high quality but I chose it as we're trying to go zero waste and I'm happy with having nothing to throw away in the bathroom.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 11/11/2020 20:57

The recycled one is a bit grim - I found I kept putting my fingers through it Envy (not envy) and ended up with a nasty scratch! Love the concept but back on Andrex in the martini household.

dementedpixie · 11/11/2020 20:59

I'm using cheeky panda toilet roll and like it. Got a groupon deal which made it very reasonably priced

dementedpixie · 11/11/2020 21:01

I originally bought it from tesco

SlopesOff · 11/11/2020 21:04

Very thin, so thin you need a lot more per wipe than proper stuff. The sheets are a bit smaller than regular stuff too. It also dissolved into nothing when wet.

People say the bamboo is better but I find bamboo causes soreness and think about where it is from, a lot of travelling.

Of the five people that used it, not one liked it and chose to use the stuff provided by the cleaners. It is rubbish.

Crapbuttrue · 11/11/2020 21:08

I've had both, normal and bamboo. I have no problem with it. It's good value, bamboo is a sustainable crop. It looks good on my bathroom shelves.

user1471523870 · 11/11/2020 21:41

I bought a box last year thinking it was my only option to go plastic free. Quality wasn't as great as I wanted but...hey ho...I was saving the planet after all!

Few months ago I found out that Cheeky Panda wraps their toilet rolls in paper, and I can also order them from my milkman. I switched without looking back!

Nosenseofhumour · 11/11/2020 22:48

I'm not fussed about quilted 3 ply softness etc but the air miles thing is a bit of a problem. Lots of views anyway thanks

OP posts:
bilbodog · 11/11/2020 23:06

Im using it and its fine. Ive never liked the quilted stuff in Any case - it blocks the loo. I like their ethos.

NoSquirrels · 13/11/2020 10:28

We’ve had the recycled and it’s OK - on a par with other supermarket recycled paper and that’s all we used anyway, not posh stuff. No problems with disintegration etc. Just ordered some bamboo ones to try to see the difference.

No plastic is great, not having to buy them at the supermarket is also great. Charity donation a bonus. I’m more concerned that it’s completely sustainable or recycled even if it gets here in a ship from China. There’s a chart here with origins of stuff - obviously will pay more for UK based manufacturing because we’re a small country:

Couchpotato3 · 13/11/2020 10:36

Not overly impressed with the recycled version (a bit flimsy) but happy with the bamboo - its soft and robust enough to do the job. I like the recyclable packaging.

theneverendinglaundry · 13/11/2020 12:43

If you don't mind shopping from Amazon you can get much cheaper plastic free toilet rolls from there. I got a box of 45 bamboo rolls for £20.
