How often do you clean up?

Hi all...I was just wondering how often do people clean the rooms in their house?

We've been in our new house just over a year now and I have been consistent every weekend I clean the kitchen, hallway, living room, stairs and landing, bedrooms and bathroom. My DP does help and he tends to hoover the stairs and tidy bedrooms.

We both work Mon - Fri and have now started to bicker on a weekend over doing the housework, he thinks I don't need to clean every weekend. The house is never messy as there is just the two of us (for now) and each day we use the kitchen I clean and wipe down the worktops. The living room is never messy and the bedrooms are never messy and I do sometimes think when I'm dusting I can't see any dust to wipe! The bathroom we also keep this clean as we go but on a weekend I do wipe everywhere down properly.

After our little bicker at the weekend I just started to wonder how often/when do people clean their house?

The organised mum
Method is what I follow so I clean 45 mins a day mon-fri. It's best thing I ever did!

I do a bit everyday and then more at the weekends. No real routine just keep on top of it. Work full time and single parent so just do my own thing

Echobelly · 11/11/2020 19:40

Uhm... not much. I hoover the lounge once or twice a week between the cleaner, depending how foul it gets, and the stairs and upstairs hall once in between. That's all been made much easier by buying a new, less broken and much lighter vacuum cleaner.

About once a week I clean the kitchen worktop when I can't stand it anymore. Blush

onetwothreeadventure · 11/11/2020 19:47

Downstairs everyday. Multiple times because... toddlers

Cleaner comes once a week and does full clean including changing beds, mopping, full hoover etc

A Eufy and the cleaner probably save our marriage!

Daily - vacuum downstairs, sweep hard floors, washing up, kitchen sides and tables.

Twice a week - spray around bath and sink, clean toilet and rinse the spray off. Means it never builds up so only takes 5-10 minutes. I also steam mop the hard floors twice a week too.

Weekly - wash towels and dog blankets. Strip beds and change bedding.

Laundry is done on an "as needed" basis. Normally every couple of days.

Everyday. I have a very lovely DS who is 16 months and his favourite thing to do is pull everything out and throw it everywhere.
I had a magnet in my room earlier. The letter shape ones from the fridge of his 🤷🏻‍♀️ 😂

I go through the whole house weekly. Change beds, vacuum, mop, dust, clean bathrooms etc. I also make sure every room is clean and tidy each day. I may whizz round with the vacuum during the week too but usually only downstairs.

I thought what I did was normal until
I discovered Mumsnet.

winemonster · 14/11/2020 05:08

I wipe down all surfaces several times a day and dust everything daily. Tidy up constantly. Hoover a 5 bed house several times a day. Clean bathrooms every day. Beds changed twice weekly but pillows washed daily.

I have diagnosed OCD and simply cannot accept any dirt/mess or outstanding chores/tasks. It’s absolutely exhausting emotionally and physically and rules my day to day life but therapy didn’t work nor did medication. I feel sorry for my husband and 5 year old son 😪

ritzbiscuits · 14/11/2020 05:19

I tend to do a 'full clean' fortnightly, but kitchen gets wiped down daily, bathroom toilet/sink very regularly with wipes etc. Eufy vac is on every few days in the lounge too.

I tend to do the general tidying, dusting, hoovering, DH is in charge of kitchen and bathroom deep cleans. Works for us, we both work 4 long days and I don't want to spend excessive time cleaning.

Jroseforever · 14/11/2020 05:28

Kitchen thoroughly cleaned everyday
Dining room and hall vacuumed every day

Bathrooms thoroughly cleaned 1x week
Dusting throughout 1x week
All rooms vacuumed 3xweek

FlyNow · 14/11/2020 05:32

I clean every week but I wouldn't do things like dusting when there isn't any dust.

Livedandlearned · 14/11/2020 05:37

Kitchen daily, bathroom twice weekly but toilet nearly every day, dust and hoover weekly, bedding weekly.

Saturday used to be cleaning day but now I work shifts it just gets done whenever.

I wouldn't do spare rooms weekly or dust if no dust. That would be a fortnightly or monthly job.

GrumpyHoonMain · 14/11/2020 05:37

Things like kitchens and bathrooms we do everyday. Dusting as and when it needs it. Hoovering most days.

PiccalilliChilli · 14/11/2020 05:47

I work shifts so it can be a whole 7 days before I crack on with a "deep clean". My daughter helps a little bit. I insist she clean her room weekly. (Teenager)

I have recently started FlyLady's system.

This week's zone was the kitchen. My kitchen is the cleanest it's been for a while and it was pretty painless!

FLYLady discourages you from cleaning at weekends as this is time to spend with loved ones or self-caring.

anxiiousone · 14/11/2020 05:55

Try a cleaning system that skips weekends and have fun with your partner instead Smile

SexyGiraffe · 14/11/2020 06:04

We have a cleaner who comes weekly and does a general blitz. In between that we clean the kitchen every day, vacuum throughout a couple of times a week and I try and do a load of washing every day. Beds get changed every 1-2 weeks.

Nanalisa60 · 14/11/2020 22:16

Do you remember when you was a little girl and you heard your Nan say a woman’s work is never done!! Well it’s true i can always find something that needs to be clean or washed!!
